No internet radio on N172XS
Posted by: PG on 18 August 2013
I have no iradio on my N172XS. All was fine. I've checked IP addresses, re set the Unit twice, re set the home hub, check internet etc. All it says after trying to load is Internet Radio...Empty.
It was working OK a week ago, but nowt today.
Any thoughts on what the issue night be, streaming works fine.
Cheers

I thought I was alone till saw this thread. No iRadio on both UnitiQute & UnitiQute2. And I haven't updated firmware to 3.21 yet. What's going on?
same issue here with a qute and a nac-n 172xs 8both on 3.21) - must be a naim issue as other webradio devices like my denon receiver or my sony tv work just fine.
UPDATE: also having the NO upnp after iradio issue as well. only a full shut down and restart of the qute and nac-n 172xs solves re-enables upnp. this sucks! will open another thread on this if no one else did so far...
Same here - no iRadio on my Uniti2. I definitely did immediately post-firmware update. Most odd!

Really strange like in the past when this has been reported on the forum no problems with my ns01, it has played fine all day.
Osprey, my "it exists in all" would be better as "it might exist in some earlier". If the problem doesn't occur with 3.20 and earlier on any device then it is certain that it is a 3.21 firmware issue. Remember that the problem (or more correctly symptom) we see is system malfunction after selecting the iRadio input in the absence of its' input stream. 3.21 has added a new input - Multiroom. It is stretching co-incidence too far to believe that the appearance of the symptom is unrelated to the addition of another virtual input stream.
Having re-read the foregoing I have just tried the obvious, disabling the Multiroom input (I have no multiroom servers). UPnP can now be selected after iRadio selection without power restart. I'm now betting the problem is unrelated to missing iRadio resource, it's missing Multiroom servers with enabled Multiroom input. This is still a firmware issue that needs correcting. Disabling the Multiroom input if there are no multiroom servers would have been useful advice in Naim's Multiroom blurb!
Osprey,
The missing iradio is, as you say, not a firmware issue. What Kiwi is referring to is the fact that now that vtuner has gone down it causes an issue on the Naim streamers when, after unsuccessfully trying to connect, they then don't properly switch to another input source.
Kiwi,
It's not related to the multiroom input, at least not directly. I don't have that on my Qute and I can reproduce your same problem. Naim rightly concentrate on SQ so a fix for something only caused by an infrequent issue with vtuner won't likely go to the top of any to do list.

Missing iRadio is not firmware related. iRadio isn't missing, it is its' input stream that's missing. Normally, firmware handles missing input stream by waiting for user action, i.e. manual selection another input. However, if Multiroom is enabled without any servers available, the normal iRadio response is defeated and the system hangs. Hence the need for a power restart.
Kiwi,
As per my previous post it happens without multiroom even being there, i.e. pre 3.21. It is not related to this 'new' input. The power cycle (however achieved) has fixed the symptom, not disabling multi-room input.

My posts relate to the ND5. I know nothing about the Qute, I presume you are pre 3.21. It is likely that the Naim streamers have different architectures which require differing implementations of a nominal firmware revision. As I alluded to earlier, perhaps it is a dormant pre 3.21 issue which has only been revealed by circumstance. I claim no expertise, just observation and deduction leading to an apparent fix. Naim must explain.
Incidentally, I don't use or miss iRadio. I find it unusable because of what I understand to be a buffering issue of some sort causing gaps of silence - worse that damn TV adverts!

My references to multiroom servers should have been to clients of course !!!
My superuniti's radio alarm came on this morning. I don't want to turn it off now as that will probably mean I'll lose the radio again.
As mentioned above, the Naim vtuner site is down, but other vtuner sites seem to be working. Anyway, I hope this can be sorted after all of you wake up on Monday. Thanks!
Tried the ND5 this morning after system idle overnight. Using nStream 3.3, UPnP continuously cycled through selecting successive tracks without playing any of them. Front panel worked OK after which nStream worked without the need for power restart. No doubt Naim will become aware of this, and other similar subject, threads. I hope we get a statement from them soon.
Also no Internet radio on my HDX since yesterday. Persistently comes up with 'connection failed'. Did briefly manage to get radio paradise this morning but cannot get that now!
Internet is fine elsewhere in the house, to this iPad, for example.

Good news—vtuner seems to be back up. I think you need to switch on and off; at least I did. Thanks!
It still appears choppy/intermittent
All working smoothly for me (at the moment)....
vTuner is shit
Yep, working here also.
Was checking using 320k.
Now all OK but was having trouble earlier with R Paradise, Naim R and Linn Jazz.
Wierdly, Linn Jazz is still only buffering at 70-90% but I've not had any drop-outs, the last hour.
Apparently Ok here too
BUT
I think we deserve an explanation
and more importantly
What are Naim going to do prevent a recurrence ?
iRadio, I've missed you!!! Back in business here to.

just can't get '4EverFloyd' for some strange reason - but that may not be related and could be a fault with that particular radio station (?)
