Finding pre-gap takes ages using Samsung SE-208

Posted by: PhilP on 20 August 2013

I was happily ripping using XLD on an iMac when a CD jammed in the internal drive and resisted all attempts to remove it. I tried everything suggested on the Apple site, various Mac Fora and YouTube but nothing worked so I've given up for now...

I then started using an external Samsung SE-208 drive which works fine except that it takes several times as long to find the pre-gaps as the internal drive.  Ripping is just as fast. I wondered whether there are any settings I can change to make the pre-gap discovery run faster but am not sure where to look?

Any help gratefully received. Thanks.

This just happens on some external drives & XLD.

Sadly, I don't think there's a universal fix for it.

Oh well, I'm 450 CDs in with about the same number to go so think I'll try another type of drive to see if that makes a difference.

itunes disabled - I don't currently use it but plan to revisit when I have more time to play

i'm ripping zero compression flac and then transcoding to wav on the fly.

thanks!
