Superuniti and DAB radio problem

Posted by: 4411 on 24 August 2013

Hi

Have had the Superuniti for nearly year now and I have had one problem from the start which is,

when I switch to the DAB input after listening to another input, the dab signal will drop out after 5-10min and the display says has 'no signal'. The only way to get out of this is to switch off and switch back on again and then the DAB plays fine and after a burbling of loss of signal it stays on for the rest of the day.

I thought at first it was the aerial but I replaced the aerial cable and connections and re alighned with the local transmitter and I get 69 stations of 100% reception.

I contacted the suppliers and Naim and after many emails Naim asked for the SU back to repair the fault. It was away for 6 weeks and it still has the same fault.

Has anyone else had a similar problem with the DAB cutting out like this, its frustrating because I reckon the Superuniti is a fantastic streamer.

Hi 4411. How did you resolve your problem? My Unity has started having similar problems now.

Hi Woj

I have still got the problem but not as bad as it was. I f the unit has bee powered down for a while and I switch it on and select dab it may start to loose reception but it picks up and then doesn't go off again. I reckon it's the reception as it has improved since I reconfigured the aerial direction with a compass bearing to the local transmission mast and redid the connections.

Naim had my unit back to check and judging by the lack of replies I had I believe it is the reception of the dab signal and not the unit.

DAB sounds so bad that I can't listen to it. I wonder if you could get the same stations on iRadio in better quality, and avoid the problems at the same time?

For serious listening I use iradio especially Avro classic for all day long background music. Internet radio has all the stations you can get on dab and a lot more and in a higher Kbps but it's the annoying fact that you have purchased a great piece of kit and can't use all the functions when the pure portable radio in the next room doesn't seem to have a problem with dab reception from its telescopic aerial.

That's right. Because DAB is build in it should work even if there is a possibility of listening to the same station using iradio. What worries me is that switching the unit off and back on again resumes proper DAB operation. If that would be solely antenna problem it should have not make any difference. Also, nothing has hanged in my installation but suddenly my Uniti started to have this signal problem on DAB (FM works perfectly all the time even when DAB does not work).

I am not very knowledgable about the tech behind all this but I reckon my reception problem would trigger some thing in the uniti receiver and without the reboot I would get the fault code 36 DSP err 100 00482622 come up on the screen and the only option is the reboot. It may be that you have a dif fault, have a word with your dealer or naim tech dept. Make sure you have the latest software update as this could help.
