CDX2 + SU vs HDX + SN

Posted by: andrew988 on 02 September 2013

Hi, did any one compare the above combination! Speaker is SBL.

I was hunting for CD player to go along with my current SU+SBL. But saw a very good condition of HDX, but way above my budget.

A crazy mind suddenly ask myself whether HDX + SN can sound better compare to CDX2 +SU, both work out about the same price if I was going to get a CDX2.

Appreciate if you can share if you ever compare the sound quality between the above combination.

Thanks!

Hi Jason,

'Tales of the Unexpected' was also one of my favorites, when I lived in the UK. But I always knew that it was fiction.

No.

It is the same, the UnitiServe is a computer. My computer plays a lot more formats and looks far less like a computer than the UnitiServe. It is not a CD player though if that is what you really want. Naim demonstrated at the Bristol how a computer made perfect rips and played through the DAC V1 sounded better than the NDS using rips from UnitiServe. A very honest and interesting demonstration. Of course other listeners may have reached a different conclusion.

I would disregard HiFi Critic and have a listen for yourself. I'm with PH on this one, but i can't be sure that you will not hear a difference. If i were you I'd just stick a computer through a USB SPDIF convertor like the Stello U3 and connect it to your SU. It'll sound superb.

Another vote for Tales of the Unexpected: fantastic programme.

H Wat,

I am aware of the Bristol Show demo...and as I mentioned in a previous post, the jury is still out on this issue and other issues (such as adding an external linear ps to the u-serve), based on comments here and the fore mentioned article in HiFi Critic. What is not acceptable, under circumstances where contrary evidence is put forward, is a simple "no" or "yes" .

In addition, what is also not acceptable is to suggest to "disregard" one set of data in favour of another. We have PH telling the Forum that HiFi Critic is peddling whichcraft and you presumably are also aware of the organisation publishing spurious data, and I very much doubt that you have any evidence of that..from my point of view, that comes across as very aragant. Or perhaps HiFi Critic is well known for its dabbling in the Ocult that I was not aware of?

Jason.
