Attention iPeng/Squeezebox users .. upgrade time.

There's a new version of iPeng just out that turns  your iTouch or iPhone into a player so you can stream directly to it.  It's like it turns your iPhone/Touch into another Squeezebox on your network. It works superbly and costs buttons. The feature is called iPeng Playback and it handles FLAC and ALAC. Even works over the phone network, though in this case you need to transcode down to MP3.

Let me guess -- I buy iTouch and audio cradle and install iPeng Player to stream music from NAS through the SlimServer.
And I can always hook iTouch off the cradle and drop it down to the pocket when going away.

This may kill SB Touch sales!

Or better, you plug your Touch to the Naim Dac and there you are.

Yes to both of the above.  It's really good - gives you a single interface to all of your music. I've been using mine with a cheap-ish Logic-3 Speaker dock as a portable radio too - excellent - much nicer to use than the SB radios. It certainly might give the SB Touch a hard time - if you haven't got a naim DAC with apple connectivity you could use something like the new Pure i20 dock to take the digital data stream from your iPhone/iTouch and turn it to s/pdif.

Oh, and of course stream music from you server at home to your iPhone over the phone network when you are out and about ....

iPeng is just so nice to use.

Thanks likesmusic - good spot.

They have implemented this rather well.  There is a general update to iPeng itself and then the new feature is available as an in-app purchase.  No need to run a second app to do this (goodbye Squeezecast) and no need to buy it at all for users who don't need it.

There is even a voucher code system so that you only need buy the upgrade once and it will work on both iPhone and iPad.

Can also be used as a digital transport/streamer for the nDAC

Agree with the positive comments - its an addition that really completes the system for the Squeeze-users among us.

But there are still many reasons to buy a hardware-device - not necessarily thinking sound-quality - but many features are not supported (yet?).
