Instruction for using playback of Internet services such as Spotify, Lastfm on Uniti Products, there may be other ways but this should get you going.

Hi Paul

I take it that this doesn't apply to a Mac system? Are you aware of how to get Spotify to play on a Uniti through a Mac?

To stream Spotify (or similar) from a Mac:
Install Nicecast and configure it to capture the output from Spotify and broadcast this as a Shoutcast Internet radio stream at 320kbps.
Use the Naim vTuner site to register your Uniti/Qute/NDX and add the local IP address of your Mac as a new Internet radio station.
Then, on your Uniti/Qute/NDX, select iRadio, navigate to Added Stations and select the one you just registered.
Works well for me.

Start the process by entering the mac address of your UnitiQute or NaimUniti. After entering this you can register.

Does this (MAC or Windows) also work as a multiroom solution with multiple Qute's or Unit's? You will probably have some ip delay between rooms.. I can imagine.

Anybody tried this?

Ricardo - No, this is not a feature of the Uniti family's UPNP streaming.
If you want the same music playing in multiple zones you need to look at Airport Expresses, Apple TVs, Squeezeboxes, Sonos or Naim's NaimNet products.

Ha, that's fun and not something I'd noticed, thanks.

So what's happening there precisely? The uPnP player's registering with the sound card, taking the output from it, coding it as MP3 (bit rate as specified) and streaming it. I can see why that's good for distributed audio.

Perhaps it's obvious, but the alternative if you don't need to stream the stuff is an optical S/PDIF cable connecting the PC's mother board sound output directly to the Naim.

As I only currently have a free account with Spotify I can't tell the difference either way for that, because I'm limited by the grungy source). On the other hand I could use the same technique you're descriving to stream FLAC from Media Monkey (say), and compare that with the same stuff via S/SPDIF. I would think that straight out of the mother board would work best (least transcoding opportunities and it's got to come via that in all cases anyway), but I may be wrong.
