Amarra and upnp server

Posted by: nikos on 06 September 2013

Hi from Greece,

I just bought a naimuniti 1 for my second system.(thank you Anthony @ centralaudio.co.uk)

I am using amarra in my main system. The music library is in an external hd connected to my macbook pro.

I would like to keep on using amarra for my main system but searching your great forum I found that I have to install an upnp server to stream music to naimuniti.

Which osx server is easy to install?

Could the server be able to scan and found the music I already have installed in my macbook?

Can I keep ripping cds with amarra?

(I have an ipad to controll the server.)

Thank you in advance,

My apologise for the newbie questions

Playback from Yazsoft is an excellent UPnP server for the Mac.

thank you James,

I will try it.

Is anyone using Playback  and Amarra on the same Mac?

Can Playback find amarra library?

Thank you all,

Playback is really designed to integrate with an iTunes library but you can point it at the location of your music files and it will serve them. You can download a demo version to try.

Hi Yazoft seems to have shut up shop - the website is gone - what else would you recommend for a mac running Mavericks?

I think amarra is tied to itunes, you need to set up home sharing on the one mac so your main system can pick it up in itunes to then play through amarra.

Minimserver Is by far the best UPnP server for OSX at present - small footprint, robust and with excellent transcoding options - flac to wav24 for example - constant updates and development.

Tell the server where your music is stored and off you go.

Shame about Playback. A great product with great support whilst it lasted. I've left the Mac / Naim UPnP world so i'd take Togs excellent advice above
