n-Stream with iOS 7?
Posted by: Somchie on 09 September 2013
I know it is still in its beta, but has someone had any success with n-Stream and iOS 7?
I am running the latest iOS 7 beta and I can not start any song, the n-Stream just crashes. It worked on the previous beta though.

Press only the play botton then it work's (iPhone 5) on iPad4 you can use the list.
Is iOS 7 out then? I just tried to update, but it still shows 6.1.3

Just Googled that, and as you say, Apple will making some big announcements!
I went to ATT store, they officially say they know nothing about it. The guy said I"ve been thru this several times, don't sign up for the new iPhone, come and stand in line we'll have lots of them. I think I'll let a few days go before I stand in that line. I don't need it the first day. But, I will directly go to sign up for classes at the Apple store. I have a G3 phone and don't use much of it. I looked at my ATT usage and I use a pittance of my plan. I don't use social media or text much. Most of my high use is at home iMac.
I went thru all the stuff they are turning out on website, the new high power hard drive sounds outrageous, 10+ high and round and sits on your desk top. WWAAAAYYYY more than i need tho. I am interested when they come out with a new AppleTV and the Ultrafast 802.11ac Wi-Fi Airport Extreme has a built in firewall and searches and pinpoints devices instead of sending out a general signal.
I'll hold off upgrading my iPad till the nStream catches up.
Been using iOS 7 for a while and installed the soon to be final version last night. I can only select to play an entire album. Selecting "play this track", "play from this track", "queue next" or "queue last" crashes the app. However, adding tracks to a new or existing playlist works. All other functions seem to work.
One major issue that I encountered while using the beta version was after a power outage. n-Stream would no longer recognize or communicate with my Superuniti. I had to downgrade to iOS 6, re-establish the connection and then upgrade once again to iOS7. Luckly, I've had no power outages since.
I tried n-stream with the iOS7 GM. It crashed twice when I tried to play anything. Then I had to reboot the ND5 to play anything by selecting manually. I'll try it again just in case it was the normal N-Stream instability, and determine if the app is broken with iOS7 or just unstable as usual, and works eventually.
Using Nstream on ios 5.1 and it's rock solid. Safari crashes from time to time, but never so far Nstream. I suspect issues here are to do with Apples OS rather than Nstream. Nstream needs to use the network in a specific way that it will do through OS libraries, and if these are unstable there is not a lot Nstream can do other than try and achieve the same function a different way by calling different underlying routines, but of course this sort of approach can lead to software version instability.

It seems to be working for me now.

I'm also using iOS7 GM. Can you select individual tracks without the app crashing ?

Yes. It seems my earlier problem wasn't with n-stream, but with my ND5 XS. The latter was in need of one of its periodic reboots.

I will take that back. n-strem crashed on mea coupe times trying to select a track for "Play From Here." That was the problem I had earlier too. I'll say N-Stream is flakey with iOS7 (well, it's always flakey, make that flakier than with iOS6).
Naim needs to update it. It's not stable.

I suspect we will all have lots of apps to update as soon as iOS 7 is officially released later this week. Hopefully, the n-Stream will be part of the flood of new updates.

All my other apps work fine with two exceptions, but cosmetic problems. Navigon shows an extra copy of its toolbar when the app starts, but that goes away when a screen refresh occurs. Cyclemeter has a page in setup that shows the BT devices that are paired. That has overlapping panes, but it's not a problem functionally. Everything else seems to work fine, except N-Stream.
Running the Beta and iOS7 with nStream works fine.
Have to say - best to wait for the official release of the iOS and then test. As it stands Naim are in no position to make adjustments before that.

The GM is the final version that will be released to the wild this week, for those of us running it.
So does the GM work fine?

No problems here. It's the same thing everyone else gets tomorrow.
Its fine, but looks a bit 'teenagery'
Should look really chinzy on the gold iphone.
The issue I guess for Apple is they hit the ground running with iphone, great OS, and within months tonnes of apps. It really just works
This new version doesn't offer anything 'new' its just a bit of slappy.

I didn't really care for the new look at first, but I'm getting used to it.
I love the new swipe-able control center. That's a great feature I find very useful.
Well the price is right, and so far its not causing me any issues I didn't have before so its all good
I have to play a full album then skip to the song I want, which is as good as useless.
I have uninstalled and re-installed the app. Is it worth rebooting my ND5 I wonder?

You'll just have to wait until Naim fixes it. Several others — including me — have reported the same issue. Restarting your ND5 won't help either.
