It took almost 20 years  but well worth the wait for me .

@ Tony.

Pleased you like the Goldfrapp - I have not stopped playing it all week, just could be my album of the year...

Enjoy Graham.

Well, given the growing consensus that this album is something special I thought I'd give it a punt and have just ordered one. Will report back.

I bought it (Goldfrapp) on Monday as a digital download. Came as flac in 96/24 for 8 GBP. Awesome, isn't it?

My favourite album until now: Nick Cave. Push the Sky Away.

I am giving this a listen, too.  Thanks for this thread and the suggestions.

Bought it through boomkat, an excellent music store for electronic music, etc. You can purchase the high-res wav through her website as well. Or you try my favourite one: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=goldfrapp+tales+of+us+24+bit   ;-)

John Grant - Pale Green Ghosts

I loved Queen Of Denmark, but after multiple plays I think Mr. G has actually managed to better it.

Finally, I've been thinking about to start a thread about this, but I've been lazy. Keep them coming, especially good rock albums you encountered.

Here's something I've enjoyed (metal alert!):

Amorphis - Circle

Dark Tranquillity - Construct

Alice In Chains - The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here

Megadeth - Super Collider

Audrey Horne - Youngbloos

Autopsy - Headless Ritual

Sound City - Real To Reel

Endless Boogie - Long Island

Cult of Luna - Vertikal

Black Sabbath - 13

Hi Phage,

Try the track, 'Direct', from last years Thumpermonkey album - Sleep Furiously. It changes direction more times than a Politician and the Coda pins you back to the wall, given enough volume & some DBL's maybe

Okay strictly speaking this is a 2012 album, but it looks like a debut of a not very known about artist, and I’d only got a recommendation a few weeks ago so very new to me.

Her voice is feminine, slightly Olivia Newton John, bordering Mazzy Star style with strong occasion hints of Janet Weiss from the Rocky Horry Show.

The band musicianship is excellent, with material that’s unpretentious and easy on the ear with not a duff track on the album, may sound a bit dull on first listen but it grows deeply with more plays.

Vinyl is available via Amazon [other sellers] for less than a tenner delivered : )

The obvious question to follow with is if the Goldfrapp site download is 24/44 there where is anyone getting those extra samples from?? The Goldfrapp site has this hi-res option and this being 24/44 suggests the hi-res release is exactly that 24/44.

I just purchased the 24/44 files myself and if it's better than the 16/44 I already had, it's not by much. For me there are still big question marks over hi-res in general. The latest Smiths remasters 16/44 are miles better than the old 16/44 masters. The biggest factors seems to be the recording/mastering... 16/44 done well can be stunning. Sorry a bit off topic I know...

Kev,

I did not know about them until you mentioned it. I suppose only the hardcore , true fans of the band,  collectors alike, will be buying them and I know you are very fond of them.  I am quite satisfied with the lot that I bought and I think it's time for another spin.

I think Nick Cave and Yo La tengo have finally been usurped this year by Bill Callahan: Dream River. High hopes entirely exceeded. Few listens only so far but fabulously rich and wry. I note lots of good reviews in the press too.

'The only words I've said today are "Beer".....and " Thank you" '. Laconic does not cover it.
