nStream no workee for caca!

Folks,

So we finally get moved into our new house, I get the NAC-A5 strung through the walls, and everything set up where it needs to be.  I turn on the SuperUniti, connect to internet radio using the remote, Swiss Radio comes on and everything works great----except nStream, which I KNOW was working last night and I THINK was working this morning before I moved the SU--now doesn't work at all.  Symptoms are as follows:

1.  Wireless connection from SU to router works fine--as evidenced by the fact that iRadio works.

2.  My IPhone shows a 4 bar connection to my network.

3.  But when I activate the nStream app icon, it shows "connecting" briefly, then flashes off the screen.

4.  I go to tools/network settings/DHCP, verify that it is on--and go ahead and mark it as on anyway.  Nothing.

5.  I switched the SU off and on--no help.

6.  I switched the iPhone off and back on--same-same.

Any help would be appreciated.

Was the SuperUniti connected previously via wired connection?  This may be worth trying (it is possible that your wireless router is blocking some of the advertisement or discovery communications necessary to connect app to streamer).

Have you 'killed' the app since reinstalling the SU etc.? I have a similar recurring problem that boils down to the n-stream (everything else seems to be doing it's job "mostly")

Thanks for the replies.  While I understand that NAIM recommends wired, I have never used anything other than the wireless connection--with no problems other than the very occasional dropout.  No changes other than moving the SuperUniti about six feet.

Not sure what is meant by "killing" the app?

So the SU sees the internet (as witness the fact that i radio works great).  And the iphone sees the internet (as indicated by the settings and number of bars signal strength.). If I walk down the street and push the nstream icon, imstead of trying to connect and then dropping out, it tries to find a network--and finding none, says so.

Thanks again,

Hey Russ,

Double-click the home button on the iPhone, find the nStream icon in the row of icons that will appear (may have to scroll thru a lot of icons), and press the red x to "kill" it.

You might also want to unstall it, and then reinstall it from the App Store.

See if this helps.

David:  I went ahead and created a wired connection since I needed to that anyway--but it did not clear up the problem.

Bart:  Long time no talk!  I figured out what the home button was, killed the app, and that did not help either.  When I have time, I will try reloading the app.  How does one delete it though?

Thanks to all.

Russ yes, welcome back!

To uninstall, touch and keep touching any app icon.  They will all start to wiggle a bit, and x's will appear on them.  Touch the x on the nStream icon -- that will delete it.  Then press the home button once, which will put the phone back in its normal mode.

Then go to the App Store and re-install nStream.

Good luck! Let us know if that helps.

I reinstalled nStream yesterday, and for the first time, I needed to switch the SuperUniti off and on to make it see nStream. Still, it only took two minutes and it's all fine again. I never seem to need my Store password; maybe that's because the Naim apps are free. You may not need yours either.

Sorry I didn't pick up on the password issue earlier -- you now don't need your iTunes/AppStore password to update anything you've already purchased (at cost, or free).  But you do need the password the first time, even if it's a free "purchase."

Hungry and Bart:

Well, I went to the app store and found the link for nStream 3.4 and clicked to install--it told me I required an update to iOS 4.3.  Sheesh.  Now, I do NOT intend to turn this forum into a remedial tutorial on elementary iPhone issues.  But I am going to take the damned phone into an ATT store when I get the chance to see if they will upload the required version of the OS for me.  I may give it a go one or two more times, but I really do hate stuff like this.  I do have the SU in a closet (well air conditioned) so I am going to live or die by nStream.  May even have to buy a new IPad or mini to deal with this.  The good news is the setup sounds incredible.

Thanks,

Russ

Russ what model iPhone do you have?  iOS 4.3 is QUITE old.  If it's in the budget, an iPad mini will probably provide a very nice upgrade to your experience using nStream.  Bigger screen, bigger buttons, bigger text and graphics . . .

Bart: I called ATT and they said it was an iPhone 4 and that I could go up to level 6 of the OS.  I am going to take it with me on my next trip to Houston, go to an Apple Store and make Apple pay out some of that hundred-billion in cash they are scarfing away from the poor deserving wine-tasters out there in the Sonoma Valley to some twelve year old--to load up the iOS version I need and THEN download the app for me.

Can't say I ain't cutting edge!

It's actually pretty easy to do the update yourself Russ.

Settings > General, and then it's somewhere in there, maybe in "About" or maybe there is a "Software Update" menu.  There is a "Software Update" selection in iOS 6, but I recall that there wasn't always a separate menu for it; it might be buried in the "About" menu.

Just get the phone on your home wifi, plug it into the charger, and do that.  But if you're feeling trepidation, sure just wait for some "Genius" at the "bar" to help.  I always have good experiences at the Genius bar.
