IOS7 + NSTREAM = CRASH
Posted by: pedromarmot on 20 September 2013
At least for me, after the update, no music.... please fix it.
This is a forum for members to converse, it might be better to talk to Naim directly if you require a fix..
To converse whit what base? Only the good thinks? How good is our equipment? How fantastic compare with…what? Right not good or bad for me It don’t works, at least not in Iphone 5, Ipad and Ipad mini. If you want conversation I can give you a lot, for sure I’m not listening music.

Well it seems if there is no music then conversation will have to do, the sticky stated they were looking into it (but I didn't notice it either) and Naim support will just put your request on the In-tray with the others. Now it might be helpful to mention what specifically is wrong.
Let's be fair.
Just because there may be some conflicts with nStream and i0S7 with a minority of customers (because if it was a majority this forum would have been flooded) doesn't mean you cannot get music.
The supplied remote handset will surely still work. As will the front panel buttons.
No?
So is there anyone out there who can use cover art web search on NServe with IOS7 or is it really a just a minority with this problem?
Keith
I can’t even play a song, so don’t worry with covert art, I’m sure you can see the pictures on your cd cover or PC. Thanks god it’s a minority with problems….
I have an issue that shows up on my iPhone 5 but not my iPad mini. Both running iOS7 of course. When selecting music from UPnP my 5 lets me search the library but when I touch the song to select and pop up screen gives options of: play this track, play from this track, or Add to... Que or playlist. Selecting any of those on the 5 crashes the app but it works fine on the iPad mini.
Connon
Yes, I have the same. Playing a whole album from the start works fine on nStream on the iPhone, but selecting an individual track crashes the app. All seems well on the iPad though. Strange.
Hope Naim come up with an update fix soon.
I'm not worried about album art, I was just interested to know anyone can still edit it via Nserve on iOS7.
I don't know if Nstream works in my setup as my NDX is in Salisbury at the moment, but I'm in the happy position of having two iPads, one of which is too old for iOS7 so I should be ok :-/
Keith
Generally n-stream works fine on my iPad mini with iOS 7. Problems occur every time the apps tries to access websites using iOS WebKit/ Browser. It didn't crash but you don't get any results.
I think there are bigger issues with iPhone.
Have the same problem after updating to iOS. Try to access amazon website to get artist information via n-Stream, does not seem to connect to website and have a blank white screen, apart from that my iPad works fine with both n-Serve and n-Stream

So; on the 20th there was a really helpful statement saying don't download iOS7 for the time being. That's AFTER iOS7 has been released and downloaded by most people!
It's now the 25th and still nothing by way of an update..
It wouldn't be so bad if you could switch to an Android device and use a tablet but no, we're tied to one operating system and Naim don't even seem to know how that works. I didn't buy a streamer to get up every 3 minutes and stick my nose up to a one inch green screen, I bought it to use with my iPhone.
I'm new to Naim and I'm impressed with the sound, but in this day of lifestyle systems SQ is just not enough on it's own.
It is evident that iOS7 was available for beta testing but seems that this opportunity passed Naim by.
As an app I'm afraid N-Stream is very disappointing (even when it worked under iOS6). If I choose to list by artist then I get every song in alphabetical order. WHAAAAAT? Surely it should give the sub category of 'album' under each artist. The info is available because if you list by 'album' then you get all the albums on the NAS along with the artist. It's so UN-user friendly that I'm really wishing I'd not bought it.
I'm probably going to research how Linn streamers work with their app and if they do what the Naim is so sadly lacking then I'll get something used and bang my stuff on ebay.
Jesus christ mate, use the supplied remote control, this is not life or death.
If you seat at more then 2 meters id like to see you using the remote...
Naim`s aware of the problem and are working on it. In the meantime it`s your choice, listen to music or mess further on

I have understood that the way how items (music) is listed (sorted) is not down to n-Stream but instead depend on the UPnP server used. I have a ReadyNAS and use only its included simple ReadyDLNA software and even it works just fine with n-Stream (choice Artist gives all artists in alphabetical order and under them the respective albums).
Osprey is correct.
The listing/view of stored music is dependent on the UpNP server being employed and nothing to do with nStream.
I use Twonky, and on some views album tracks are listed alphabetically. In others they are listed by number. All UPnP servers work differently. You have to find the one that meets your needs best.
Of course NAIM will fix this. However one cannot escape the uncomfortable feeling that one single upgrade could render such an investment obsolete. After all it represents not only an investment in money but also in time. What am I going to do if my gear suddenly stops playing music the way I wanted it to? I am going to get sad, or angry. It is more than my phone, it is my lifestyle we are talking about here. And my NDX is now part of my iPhone's world. I guess one has to accept this as part of the new way of living with technology. Yet the positives far outweigh the negatives. The technology, access to media and quality of music that we use today was but a dream only a few years ago. And when I bought my NDX I knew I was buying a computer that could do a number of things well but just like my Mac could crash every now and then. All it took was playing that crappy mp3 from a decade ago for the first time and I was ready to forgive it for every time it was going to be unpredictable. I have never heard Corona's The Rhythm of The Night sound so good! I mean this is some pretty amazing stuff.
I blame Apple for releasing an OS which does not work with legacy apps.
Apple make a beta version of iOS available to developers months before it is released to the general public, so that developers can test their apps with the new OS and issue updates, which is what most have done. I think Naim deserves some criticism for having apparently ignored this. Advising users not to upgrade 2 days after general release is not good enough.
Naim are undoubtedly great sound engineers and we all benefit from this. But their streaming equipment is marketed by showing off the ability to select and control music on an iOS device and this is clearly how best to use it, not with the remote control. To me, this ability is an integral part of the Naim experience and it's a shame they don't give it more attention. I also have much sympathy for Android users who seem to be ignored completely.
An interesting series of posts ... For me, IOS7 has meant that NStream won't play all the tracks by a particular artist randomly; i.e. it does not search all the folders. heaven nows which tracks it chooses to play but its not all of them. I've tried accessing using an iPod touch (generation 6), iPad (1st generation) and iPhone (4th generation) but only the iPad will work because obviously its IOS can not be upgraded to IOS7.
BTW can I use NServe if my 'Qutes are accessing the music on an external HDD (Twonky on a QNAP)?
Thanks for any feedback ...
NStream 3.4 was released in August, whilst iOS7 was still in the beta stage. The final GM code of iOS7 was released to developers on 10th September, only 8 days in advance of the release to the general public. It could well be that NStream 3.4 WAS tested with a beta of iOS7, and that the iOS7 code changed between the NStream release in August and the iOS7 release in September. I think that there is some unfair criticism being thrown at Naim here; having said that, I am one of the lucky ones who hasn't had an issue with 3.4 on my iPhone 5 or iPad 2 under iOS7.

Surely if this is the case and Naim knowing the release of iOS7 was due within weeks, then they should have waited to fully test nstream with the final release before making nstream available. What was the rush or the point in releasing nstream at the point they did. It really makes no sense to me at all. i wonder how many owners do not view this forum and are unaware that Naim are even trying to resolve the issue.
