Oppo 95SE won't play bluray disc

Posted by: Dungassin on 24 September 2013

Last night I started watching the Bluray Serie 6 of Supernatural.  8 minutes into the second episode SWMBO demanded my presence for a leaking radiator.  By the time I'd sorted it out, I was knackered and ready for bed, so I switched off the Oppo player.  Tonight I tried to play this disc, and  as often happens with bluray discs, it wouldn't just start from the last played point, but tried to load again from start.  Unfortunately it stalls after a while with the counter reading 0000 (or whatever it reads for a beginning of a disc/film) and doesn't respond to any of the controls (Menu, Stop, Play etc).

I've tried switching it off, unplugging it, pressing stop immediately after plugging it back in ...

I've seen this problem before, and solved it by playing a few other discs, then its internal disc memory presumably overflows (or something), then I can play the disc again as normal.   Very tedious, and I wonder if someone has a better solution.

I seem to have given myself an upgrade.  It's actually an 83SE.

I've beennwebsearchingand may have found a solution.  I'll try it tomorrow.

Problem solved.

Oppo Setup menu > Device Settings > Persistent Storage >

Still don't understand why this only happens with bluray discs.

Is it anything to do with the interactive content on the disc that has to be stored on the memory of the player.

TBH all that stuff is the last thing i'm bothered about. I bought my used Denon 3800BD player because of it's reputation for picture and sound, especially sound from it's analogue outputs which how i access the HD Audio to pass through the AV2. Sounds fantastic!

I suspect that it may be something like that.  The only times I have seen my Oppo freeze is when switching off while playing a bluray disc.  You might ask why would I do this?  Well, this time it was because I was 'cream crackered' after sorting out a problem with the central heating, and just wanted to go to bed.  Other times its because I am watching a TV series type disc and rather than using Episode Select, I just use PLAY.  Who wants to watch more than a couple of episodes back to back on the same session?  (Well, I do sometimes, but that's another story)

I have found that if I STOP a DVD, midway, then switch off (put into standy) the Oppo, then it will often revert to the disc TOP MENU rather than resuming play from where I left off, but if I omit STOP, then it will almost always just restart from the point reached before switch off.  Bluray discs often behave the same way, but sometimes cause a freeze as I have described, and make it awkward to actually even play a different disc!

The solutions, I have discovered, involve various things, but all seem to have the common element of clearing the buffer holding the disc information as I have described.  I just tried this bit without all the other bells and whistles and it worked!

Glad you're enjoying your AV2.  Mine is still fantastic and I have no urge to change it for anything else.  Only nuisance is that it will occasionally stop responding to the remote control, and have to be powered off.  Happens about once a month.
