DAC Auto-source-selection

Posted by: NickSeattle on 24 September 2013

I currently have my Mac Mini connected to "1" Optical, and Squeezebox Touch connected to "1" BNC.  Nothing I have tried, including powering off a source, causes the auto selection described in the manual to take place.  Is my firmware out of date?

Thank you.

Hello Nick,

I'll ask the obvious, but are you only using the one input for the auto-source feature or are all the other inputs used?

I have my TV via optical and cable box via BNC on the same input and must admit, it doesn't always work as suggested. It's rather hit and miss but it is a neat feature. The last firmware update mainly addressed FLAC access via the USB if I recall correctly.

Have you tried a power cycle of the DAC?

Hi, Arun,

Currently, I am only connecting the two sources into the DAC, and can toggle between the two by pressing "1" repeatedly, as expected.  I wondered if I have it in a "locked" mode, where only my explicit request is honored.  No such mode is precisely described in the manual, but I see that a manual source selection is supposed to trump auto.  Until when?

Power has been cycled a few times this week.

Thank you for your response.

In my experience, the auto select works like this. If you connect two fresh sources to "1" for example, the dac will autoselect the first source which contains a signal, and thereafter it remains locked to that signal. If you wish to change to the other source on "1", or a third source on "3", you will have to press the button to select the source.

If you read the manual carefully, the wording seems to fit the operation above, but it does mislead people (including myself) to think that the dac will autoselect a source on "1" or "3" whenever the source contains a signal.

Hope this helps.
