UnitiQute 2 - stream from GNU/linux and/or Andriod

Posted by: Blake67 on 25 September 2013

chaps.

i've just set up this device and have been able to do just about everything with it, except stream music to it from my computer or nexus 7 tablet.

i am running ubuntu 13.04 as operating system and i am able to see both mediatomb and rhythmbox from the naim unit and play files from the machine.  what i would like to do, however, is play something on rhythmbox (or perhaps browser/youtube) and have the qute 2 play it.  is this possible?

on the table front, i have installed BubbleUPnP but i can not for the life of me figure out what to do with it.  is there a simple guide to this anywhere?

the most important thing here is to be able to stream what is playing on the computer or tablet to the qute 2 and it would also be nice to be able to control the naim box (volume, input, etc) this way instead of with the remote (the box is behind a door, so massively inconvenient with the remote control that comes with it).

here is part of the solution (for streaming off of GNU-linux):

here is a screen shot:

I have my Qute connected to my computer using an S/PDIF cable.  That way anything directed

to the sound output of the computer can be heard via the Qute's speakers.

You need to tell BubbleUpNp about your Qute and Mediatomb (on your PC).  When you select 'Devices' in BubbleUpNp, you should see the Qute listed under RENDERERS and Mediatomb listed under LIBRARIES.  Make sure that both are selected with a blue dot. You then select LIBRARY and choose the music that you want to hear, making sure that the speaker is not muted.

HTH!

michael.

thanks for the instructions.  i finally got it to work.  one thing though--is it possible to control the volume via this solution?  i've got the "namote" app that has been developed by one of the forum members, but it's inconvenient to have to use 2 apps.

Yes, there is a blue volume slider at the bottom of the 'NOW PLAYING' panel. It works even if the Qute is in radio or digital input mode.

michael.

i have a blue slider, but it seems to be for advancing/moving position within the track, not for volume.  i also just got a "sexy girl wants to chat" advert at the top.

My blue slider has a speaker symbol at the left hand end and the the 2 digit volume setting at the right hand end. My Samsung phone and Nexus 7 are much the same.
