I have a setup where my pre-amp is an Onkyo 700 AV reciever and the power amp for my floor standing stereo speakers is a Naim NAP 200, the connection between the Onkyo and the Naim NAP 200 is via a Crimson VEE 2RCA to 4 pin DIN cable from Chord.
The setup works fine, the sound is good (I know, I shouldn't really use the Onkyo as the preamp but because I cannot separate my music from home-theater systems, it has to be this way for a while)
The issue I have is that my speakers emit a hiss or a hum, clearly an electrical noise, I tried unplugging everything and basically just leaving the NAP 200 connected to my speakers alone, and the hum is still there, very audible and sometimes reaching a loud hiss, the speakers are Sonus Faber Venere 2.5 speakers,
I am using good power leads and a good quality power block, tried also swapping these around but no luck, any idea how I can troubleshoot this further?
Thanks

You should have a low level hiss from the speakers but no hum. Without a pre-amp connected to the power amp you may well get a hum through the speakers.
Naim power amps really do work best with Naim pre-amps and can sometimes behave unpredictably with others - you'll also get better sound this way, particularly for your 2 channel music. They also have AV inputs with unity gain which will allow you to integrate with the Onkyo receiver for home theatre use.

I was not sure if I could have a Naim preamp + Naim amp connected to my Onkyo 709 A/V reciever, how would that work with the volume control on the Onkyo? If this is an option I will surely upgrade, I rather have better stereo sound than a mediocre one because of the A/V receiver standing in the middle.

Looks like it, I am replacing all the power strips and connectors on the line that feeds my music system, I have a PC, Plasma TV, Wi-Fi router and other stuff on the same line, will hopefully be easy to isolate.
