Breaking Bad no more - how to fill the void?

I loved BrBa from the onset. What did you think? Edgy.... artistic.... progressive.... alternative.... stimulating....
It has been the only TV drama I've watched since 'The Shield' ended on FX in 2008.
Is there anything out there on cable TV that might be comparable?
I believe the third and final season of the Danish drama Borgen started airing in the US and Canada last night (sadly we don't get it in the UK until January).
However to understand it, you'll have to watch Seasons 1 & 2. It's worth it though, as - IMNSHO of course - Borgen is the best drama series I have ever seen...
+1 On Season 3 now here in Germany as well. Very good critiques all around...

Young Montalbano is due to finish within the next couple of weeks as they was only 6 episodes made so we may get the 3rd series here after it.
Jan-Erik -
TV outside of sports is not a high priority right now, but Homeland is on my list when things get slow. I like the fact that Damian Lewis is the main character. I thought he was very good in the outstanding HBO series "Band of Brothers" - the only TV series I've ever bought on DVD. I suppose I will be buying BrBA soon, as well. My son is already starting to drop hints that the complete series would make a nice Christmas gift. Crikey, it's not even Halloween yet.
Finally got to see it. Bought the DVD at the weekend, watched a couple episodes a night. Excellent.
What will I be watching next. I have Spiral series 1 and 2 DVD waiting to go. (Already watched series 3 and 4)
Has anyone caught "Mob City" on TNT?
Previews looked promising but I missed first two episodes. Holidays might not be best time to premiere a series.

I can feel your pain!
We just finished season 5.2
Arrrgggghhhh, no more BB!
What a BUMMER!!
Grrrr.... Looking forward to the prequel now...
Sons of Anarchy Seasons 3-5 and Broadwalk Empire to soothe the pain!

Is OK - but not quite Boardwalk Empire. I am guessing that there will be a retelling of the death of Bugsy Siegel given a lead character's prominent use of an M1 carbine.
I found Prison Break eased the passing of BB,in fact enjoyed it more in the end.
A bit late now, but my son informed me that there is a Br Ba marathon in progress on the AMC channel in the US. I just caught the end of season 4; "Face Off", where Gus and Hector Salamanca meet their final fates..... That's a good one!
Another one from left field is American Horror Story , Season one had me on the edge of my seat, season 2 was OK but not as good as the first - it had too many (weird)plot twists for me.
Watching a Netflix documentary called "Charge" about the electric bikes at the IoM TT. Really interesting.

For me Prison Break was one of the most addictive TV series ever, great fun.
Breaking Bad totally passed me by so after all the great praise it got I purchased the BD boxset over Xmas, for me hopefully it will fill the void that Dexter left, can't wait to get stuck in
The Bridge Series 2 is out at the end of the month, on Blu-ray and DVD. Both it and Series 1 are unreservedly recommended. I'm talking about the Danish/Swedish version of course, with Sofia Helin and Kim Bodnia.
I googled "The Wire" and it sounds good. Supposed to be very realistic according to Wikipedia - something I appreciate. No sugar coating. It shares connections with two other police dramas I liked "Homicide: Life on the Street" (also set in Baltimore) and "The Shield". Thanks for the tip Skip .
The "Wire" is some of the best TV ever created.
My early Christmas present to self last year.......
Larger pic now that I've figured out imageshack ain't as free as it used to be.....just click the pic below
What a series, what an opening.......everyone remember that far back.....for those that haven't seen it here's a snippet (spoiler free), try and picture this scene - random desert, somewhere hot and empty, pair of pants (trousers) flying though the air in slow mo, RV (camper van or motor home to you and me) careering along the road, half naked man with gas mask at the wheel, other half naked man unconscious next to the guy driving, he's wearing a gas mask too.......and two bodies sliding about in the back along with a big chemistry set......WTF
I'm already looking forward to re-visiting the whole series (this time on BluRay)
Nice arf005,
Looks like high quality packaging. With the attention paid to cinematography in the series I can imagine the BluRays must be stunning. Did you also get the Los Pollos Hermanos t-shirt?
Hi Joe,
it was a Los Pollos Hermanos apron - which is packaged tightly in the circular "fat stacks o cash" placed on top of the barrel in my pic.......not sure if I'm going to use it or not - I was lucky (mad fan boy) enough to pre-order this limited edition barrel from amazon and got it for the selling price of £110.........they are now retailing on amazon for £500 used and over £600 new.......hence the reason I am not sure about opening it all up!!
The other bits / pieces were a poker chip - a nod to the "addiction".
2 hour doc about filming the end of the final season with some touching moments.
The individual seasons were packaged well - clear plastic holders, with small magnets dotted around the edges and what appears to be random artwork on them (most of which is recognisable) but when you remove all the discs and stack them you build the picture of some key things from the show - most obvious one shown in the pic is of course Heisenberg, but you can see the teddy from the pool too.....
The card with message from Vince Gilligan (stored in the "door" of the barrel) was a nice touch too - it was the first thing I went to after opening it up, and basically he talked about the reason he was so passionate about the show and the main reason the show was made was because of me........yes me, the one who went the extra mile/expense and bought this box set, the fan, the ones who could make the show the success it was, the one who when first getting this box set opened this card up and read it from cover to cover - spoooooky, I was already tingling with excitement and hadn't even watched anything yet!
Cheers,
Ali
I'm a little late to the party with this one, but Downton Abbey is my current obsession. A little soap opera-ish... but fantastic.
Some others that I've watched through lately that left an impression...
Masters of Sex - excellent.
John Adams... HBO mini series
My wife and I were saying yesterday that we might just re-watch the entire BrBa series! We didn't start watching until it had ended . . . I think we started last fall sometime, and tended to 'power watch' 3 or 4 episodes at a time once every week or two or three throughout the winter. We finished up about a month ago, and I have to say we were kinda sad to see it end. We may well start again and see what we missed!
Boardwalk Empire is EXCELLENT. Again, my wife and I really love that. Great acting and great characters -- unlike most of what's on. I highly recommend it.
I watched both seasons of House of Cards (US version) and it left me very flat. No good acting other than Kevin Spacey, and characters one really doesn't care much about. I also just finished True Detective. That was pretty good -- the acting of Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey was very good. But it was no BrBa!
I do like House of Cards and would even go far as to say its up there with Homeland...but not quite
Bart, same have said they prefer the original British series if you have not seen that.
Being into Sci-Fi, I was wondering if any body in the states is watching Helix and what they think about it?
Jason.
I just discovered the Australian TVShow : Rake
Marvelously outrageous
One of the very best I've seen ever.
(US version is crap)

True detective has been recommended to me by two people but I'm struggling to work out where I can see episodes 1 & 2. Sky will let me see from episode 3 onwards, but that's not going to work for me. Any ideas anyone?
Until I work that out, I'm watching The Americans season 1 on my iPad. Pretty good so far.

The Vikings - Very good indeed in every aspect. Has a real authentic feel about it, no silly horned helmets or dodgy accents. Raw and visceral at times.
