Breaking Bad no more - how to fill the void?

I loved BrBa from the onset. What did you think? Edgy.... artistic.... progressive.... alternative.... stimulating....
It has been the only TV drama I've watched since 'The Shield' ended on FX in 2008.
Is there anything out there on cable TV that might be comparable?
Kim Bodina. I loved him in Pusher 1
The last season of Mad Men begins next week...
Bart, same have said they prefer the original British series if you have not seen that..........
Jason.
.....I couldn't possibly comment.
Well, I could, having seen the UK version years ago on its original showing. Whilst not as elegant I do think it has been 'Americanised' quite well.
We might do a couple of episodes tonight.....or catch-up with 'The Good Wife'......or the box-set of 'Mad Men' which we lost after it went Sky high!

I don't have Sky either G... but I always manage to watch it. There are ways...
Oh jeez, Fargo has hit the mark with me. And that Billy Bob is one icy cold cucumber, I tell ya. Two episodes and I'm hooked! Really looking forward to the next one.
I was completely at a loss when I finished breaking bad and a friend suggested I try the sopranos, it was and still is a fantastic and really well written series - the music is also quite varied and some cases brilliant when paired with a particular scene
The Wire is simply stunning television. In my view far, far better than either Breaking Bad or The Sopranos.
As someone said above it has so many more dimensions than stuff like Breaking Bad. Visceral too.
I am very envious of anyone who hasn't seen it before.
Well in that case I will have to give it a go, the only problem with a good series is it takes away from the time I can spend listening to music :-(

It is indeed some of the greatest TV ever made. My wife is watching it for the first time. As you say, I'm envious.
(Don't know it is "far, far better" than BB, though. I thought BB was every bit as good)

On reflection I have understated the position - The Wire is far, far, far better than BB.
Where to start? The characterisation - unspeakably good. Omar, Bunk, McNulty, Carver, Daniels, Bubbles. Unreal. Unbelievable acting performances - many from those previously unknown. The subtext on American society. The crisp dialogue. The script, as tight as James Brown's backing band in a particularly tight performance. Tight as hell. The meter, the rhythm. Just brilliant. The viewer's relationship with the characters and it all. A feast. An opus. Magnifique. Just my thoughts anyway.
BB I got towards the end of series one and switched off. Probably should have persevered.
Thanks for the suggestions re The Wire. That sounds like a good one for when I'm in the mood for a bit of TV watching.
I watched the first episode of The Wire when it was shown originally, I thought it needed some form of translation as I couldn't understand most of the hip dialogue.

Yeah, you need the subtitles on!
My all time fav tv shows
The Wire
Breaking Bad
Survivor
Dexter
Mad Men
in that order
Fargo is definitely filling the BrBa void for me now. Similarities? Many.
- I’m greatly anticipating the next episode
- I’m watching episodes a second time the glean all the details
- Pace variation: the overall pace of the show is seemingly routine, but during short scenes the plot can progress by leap and bounds (don't blink)
- Great attention to casual dialogue, character expression, set detail, and photography
- Use of reverse chronology
- Dark humor
There's a new show called Penny Dreadful premiering this weekend. I'll check that out to see if it's any good. I also have season 4 of BrBa to watch, if I can ever get back into it.
Season 4 was the best and busiest of Breaking Bad. Hope you find the time for it. You may need to watch it twice.
Watch Breaking Bad in 4k on NetFlix.
That is what's next. ;-)
Breaking Bad Binge is now showing Sunday evenings on AMC. The first six episodes of season one were shown Sunday 5 pm - 1 am. Brief interviews and behind the scenes footage is also being shown at commercial breaks. The entire series will be shown on consecutive Sundays, concluding October 5.
I started watching The Wire a couple of weeks ago and have been doing some binge watching.
The first season was really great. I thought that the story line for the second season got off a little slow, but now that I'm almost all the way through the second season I'm pretty hooked on it.
Suits has neatly filled the void left by Breaking Bad. Hi-flying legal drama - comedy. Top notch actors and whip-smart dialogue... and Donna :
Bonus : it's on Netflix in hi-res. About 4-5 GB per episode though.
"Legally speaking" Suits is damn good but "Franklin and Bash" is funnier and Rake (original/australian version also on Netflix since the very bad US version has been canceled) is unbelievable.
Thanks ! Will check these out.

Jan...now you've done it. That'll be next after Wired.
Unlimited data is the norm here for home service, and I'm a Netflix streaming customer. But even if not . . . Donna's worth it I'm sure
