Upgrade help

Posted by: tonym182 on 04 October 2013

Hi

I have a Superuniti with Ovator S400 and Naim Powerline linked to my netgear gigabyte router by 2 audio quest vodka RJ/E cables. I am happy with my system but would like to be aware of an upgrade path. i.e. I will be staying in the streaming audio environment but want to know the next steps to take possibly wrt separates etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Add a power amp (200 upwards) to the SU.

Or a Nap250. :-)

The Nap250 is voiced more closely - but if you would like to change the voicing, 200 could be the way to go.

Consider buying s/h.

Hi Tony, lovely place Bournemouth!

I'd go with the suggestions above, favouring a big piggybank and wait for enough for the NAP 250, switch off internal SU amp and get an extra 'boost' to the sound. You don't mention where your source files reside. If you don't have a UnitiServe consider auditioning one against RipNas / Zoneripper etc, a dedicated purpose-built server (with a linear PSU upgrade) is held in high regard as a sonic upgrade, not just a lifestyle bauble!

To be conclusively better, you're looking at NDX, 555PS, 282, Hicap, 250. Is the £15000 bag of boxes sufficiently better than the £3350 SuperUniti? Only you can say. A serve with linear ps is a good thing though!

Hi
Thanks for your reply.
I have ripped all my CD's through DBPoweramp and they are stored on my Synology NAS.
Could you explain your linear PS and dedicated server comment. Do you mean that I should purchase an external power supply for the SU with a 250. Also what about upgrading to an NDX/NDS?

regards and thanks

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Thanks

Yes, it's great. Bart recommended it based largely on your experiences.
