I saw this cute infographic on Mashable, and thought it was worth sharing:

Interesting K.

All the articles I seem to read on the resurgence of vinyl  find it difficult to pin down who is actually buying it. Is it just us old guys? Also is it new or second hand sales not sure!

ps I have put  a message on your wall.

Just seen it G. Will reply via email.

I think it's a mixture - a lot of younger people are buying vinyl, I'm sure, which is nice; but you're right, there don't seem to be any reliable figures. Something for the BPI to investigate, perhaps?

Kevin my local second hand shop has seen a big shift in his customers over the last couple of years. Most of the regulars were over forty but now they're mostly in their late teens or early twenty's.

Nice piece Kevin. Thanks for the link. A new guy in our office, age 25, is into vinyl. I don't feel like such a dinosaur when I see things like that.

Most of the young people I talk to  seem to have had some sort of influence from parents/relatives.

I gave  away an old Trio/Kenwood TT and the first thing the kid said(I'm feeling old!) was that he used to listen to his father's old vinyl and thought of  starting his own collection.

Another one is a DJ neighbour that felll in love with his father's jazz collection and decided to exporer it further.

I have the feeling most  kids listening to  vinyl these days have had some sort of direct/indirect contact with the format in the past.

So it's up to you lot to keep the "dream alive". You have no one else to blame but yourselvesi if  it all  goes to pot.

I think vinyl has been discovered by the 'yoof' with two inevitable consequences:

second hand vinyl prices have increased significantly

the 'chancers' have entered the re-issue market - licensing vinyl rights for iconic jazz albums from the majors and then mastering from CD - nasty
