iRadio has stopped working on Uniti. Also, signal strength & antenna.

Posted by: Dinarius on 11 October 2013

I cannot figure out why this has happened.

I have disconnected and reconnected the connection to my router and it is showing up as 'Connected' on the Uniti.

But, when I press any of my presets (usually BBC3/4/5/World Service) it takes an age going through, Tuning/BBC Radio 3 Connecting/No Station - Press List to Select.

When I press List/Ok, the display says, Internet Radio <Empty>.

I've had the unit for nearly three years and this is the first time it has gone completely AWOL. Though it has been a bit iffy of late.

How can I restore wifi iRadio?

Two more questions.......

1. Is there any means of displaying the wifi the signal strength on the Uniti's display?

2. Is it possible to replace the antenna on the Uniti with something better?

Many thanks.

The cause is not likely to be your Uniti. The problem lies at vTuner end (the service provider for iRadio), see the other recent thread about it.

Regarding your questions I have not found a way to see the signal strength from the Uniti itself but it is possible to see it through the web interface. There is an antenna accessory available i.e. "The WA5 high gain wireless antenna", see more info from Naim main web site.

I had this problem start last night on my just over a year old Uniti2. I was about to listen before turning in, so I haven't had much time to see if I can fix it myself.

Internet radio doesn't work and all the station lists are blank. So far, so similar to the vTuner outage a few weeks ago.

However, my problem goes deeper. My Uniti no longer sees my NAS at all, though it is visible and accessible by my Windows laptop and (very slowly) through the Synology DS Audio app via iPad.

I can still select inputs via the n-Stream app - CD, FM & DAB work OK.

Anyone else had the same problem? It was all working fine before the lastest n-Stream update!

Regards,

Vlad

Thanks for the replies.

It returned for about 15 minutes about half an hour ago and is now gone again.

For the record it started yesterday. An iPhone and a laptop running wireless in the same room are working perfectly.

The modem is receiving a 50mbps connection.

Very frustrating. A little NAIM Support input would be welcome.

Naim staff is known to be browsing the forum every now and then but if you want their full attention you should mail them to support@naimaudio.com .

For the record, switching off the UNITI for 5 minutes and back on again has restored iRadio.#

No need for a reset, thankfully.

Let's see how long it lasts.

I'm running Firmware 3.9.0. om my Uniti. Anything to be gained in terms of CD playback and iRadio (I have absolutely no interest in the other features that come with firmware upgrades) in more recent verions?

Thanks.

The I radio service has been up and down today. It's not your hardware. Or app.

...and yesterday.........

I've had the same trouble with my SU the last few days. The list of stations reads <empty> and I can't get Radio Paradise - turning it on and off and faffing for a while fixed it and at one point I could play RP but nothing else. Compared to my Logitech Squeezebox Boom in the kitchen, Naim's implementation of iRadio is very flakey. Every time I turn the SU off it takes several retries before all is normal again. I have all the latest updates installed.

I read this thread when I got home from work yesterday and tried the radio. It found Radio Paradise in a few seconds so I assumed that the problem was solved.  Having just read Pev's post I tried again this morning and it is again working fine. In fact it seems to be working better than ever as I flicked trough 4 channels and back to Radio Paradise in under 30 seconds: this on a SU without  any of the recent  upgrades.

"Press play to reconnect" will be my epitaph!

Though working now.

Ps. Think I'll buy the WA5 antenna for my Uniti and hope it improves things.

It was all working fine this morning  but now when I select Naim's Choice Radio Paradise 320 I get a "station unavailable" message but RP 192 is still working.

I just want the damn thing to work instantly every time like my sub £200 kitchen system.

My iPhone & a very cheap laptop that I use around the house both motor along nicely - both the same distance from the router.

Maybe a new antenna is the the solution, but it shouldn't have to be, I feel. I had the Proms on BBC Radio 3 perfectly all summer long. So, what gives....?

Got home last night after a nice evening out and just wanted to wind down a bit with RP before going to bed. Couldn't connect  - all fine again this morning but that's not the point. Still no word from Naim - OK it's the weekend but after the acknowledged Iradio problems a little while ago they should be on the case.

By the way my SU is wired to the network - my cheap and faultless kitchen radio is 2 rooms away and works perfectly via wireless so no excuses there.

I've now emailed Naim support with a link to this thread.

Working Ok now.

In and out this morning, but it did manage to reconnect automatically each time - something it wasn't doing yesterday.

Bought a Unitiqute 2 recently, mostly for streaming 500gb of FLAC files, but ever since I've discovered Radio Paradise I haven't listened to anything else. My god, what a refreshment that radio station is.

iRadio has been acting weird the last couple of weeks though, too bad it happened twice when I had friends over and I wanted to impress them with my 1600 euro unitiqute + 1000 euro PMC speaker set... Happy to hear it's not my system though, but that issues are on NAIM's part.

It would be nice to have some kind of status page so in case the system is down, we're not resetting and unplugging all our devices. I'm not going to complain about free stuff, but when I can still listen to Radio Paradise on my 5 year old laptop, but not on my brand new hi-fi system, I'm getting a bit cranky.
