Is .aiff play supported on Uniti?

Posted by: skipper44 on 16 October 2013

The screenshots from the manual say quite clearly that the Uniti 2 will play .aiff files, but I get a message saying "unsupported file format". The few threads I have been able to read, seem to take it as a given, that it is not possible to play these

This is what is confusing and confounding me.

Could NAIM give the facts, or point us to the right place for this information. Here are the screenshots.

I play aiff on my UnitiLite without a problem.  The only format that does not work for me is m4a 192/24.

Thanks for the input Kevin,

I am traveling at this point, will try the aiff files again once I'm home. I do get the 'files unsupported' messages, but seeing the general outlook of the software there could be varied reasons for this, and a distinct chance that it could change it's mind on this count.

Regards.

Might be worth an email to Naim technical support, skipper.  Address is in a sticky at the top of the forum.

Willdo nudgerw,

I haven't yet read thru the forum rules, and also thought I'd search exhaustively through the forum before disturbing the gentlefolk at NAIM.

Also, there's no NAS set up, it's a Western Digital Hard Drive connected via USB to the wifi router (Apple Time Capsule) and so far, the UPNP input to Uniti had handled only FLAC and MP3 files. I think that accessing the music via this HD/USB/Airport route is probably cumbersome for the electronics. I'm sure the matter may already have been discussed elsewhere in the Forum. Could anybody give us a succinct answer to the issue of speed of data transfer or point us to previous threads. btw - What the Uniti 2 does with the MP3's is quite astounding. Definitely listenable!

So now I've successfully listened to .aiff files  on the Uniti 2, honestly do not know what changed - I think the issue lies with the 'server' set up taking a finite amount of time to populate it's 'library'. My MBPro has the media server software, and when my MBP goes out of the home, so does the server capability. when it comes back home and is available on the appropriate home network (dedicated broadband, ethernet input to Uniti 2) it takes time to make all the music available.

Well, that's the layperson's description at least.

ps: Switched to Asset UPNP from Universal Media Server and it has made a huge improvement to the whole streaming setup. Yes, the .aiff files did ultimately play on the earlier Universal Media Server.
