Dylan or Morrison

Which do you most enjoy?

Its Van for me, never really got into Bob Dylan. But being a native of Belfast was certainly the catalyst.

We all know you're daft Kevin. That's what we like about you.  In fact we all have to be daft to be on this forum.

Charlie Rich on the LP12, pork pie in the belly and a cuppa in the hand.

All's well with the world Steve.

Still think Van's shite though

We have to get together for that pork pie Kevin.

I'm not that keen on Van either.

Oh come on Steve! He's brill!

He's OK. I've seen him live a few times. I can't say he ever rocked my boat. I do like his work with Them though.

In my student days I was into Van with Moondance and Astral Weeks then I drifted away from him until I saw him with Linda Gail at York Babican and since then I haven' played him since.

Now, with Dylan I was hooked from the moment I first heard him and it continues, getting better as my Hi-Fi rig improves!

I quite like tonym's question - whose record are you most likely to reach for?

They are both quirky beyond compare and the answer to the question for me will always be conditioned by the mood I'm in.  I hold the pair of them in the highest regard - but they are very different!

If push came to shove and I had to average out which I'd tend to pull an lp off the shelf more often, it would most probably be Van.  But it could so easily go the other way.  Think I'd rather celebrate their differences than peg one above or below the other in rankings.  They've both produced sensational albums and some real duffers too - quantity isn't everything!!

I saw the pair of them take to stage in Glasgow a number of years back and I was quite shocked to see in a live gig the sheer energy and quality of backing band Dylan brought to the venue - on that occasion he simply blew Van off stage.

Which would I reach for? Dylan all the time. Sorry Tony.

For me it's Van everyday of the week, as much as I can admire Bobs output and quality, his voice just forces me to switch off! Sorry.
