What's it like? Just downloading 5GB at the mo...

The installer is in the Applicatuins folder.
Copying the installer after installation is not possible as it gets deleted automatically.
Alternatively, there are many many sites showing how to make a 'boot copy' of Macericks ....

Thanks Jude, will check it out now...
I rely heavily on MS Word (unfortunate I know) for my lving.
Does anyone know of any issues with MS Office for Mac 2011?
Thanks
K
Kevin just today I put Mavericks on a mid-2009 Macbook Pro with Office 2011 and Office seems perfectly happy. It was one of my daughters' old machines (we got her a new Air for uni), and it's slow compared to 2013 Macbooks with SSD but it's fine. The slowness is not due to the OS -- it was slow with 10.6.
But I think I'll spend $75 and upgrade it from 2 to 8 gb of ram.

I have a mid-2009 MBP. I got a better overall improvement by swapping the hard drive for a SSD than I did by increasing memory from 4 to 8 GB. SSD prices have come down considerably in the last year or so. I still use it every day, although I also have a late-2012 Mac Mini (also with a SSD).

I see you can now get a full Tb of SSD in MBP! (I'm slumming it with only 768GB or thereabouts.)
Once you go SSD you will never look back. It's not even a consideration for me anymore. I will not use a HDD for a boot/system volume anymore.
OK I am convinced. What are the options to replace the HD with SSD on a MB pro?? Is it a DIY option??
It's an easy 10 min. job if you can handle working with tiny screws. iFixit.com has instructions with pictures. They also sell the right screwdrivers for a few bucks.
OK, my first Mavericks problem.
iMovie is not compatible with the video card in my old [2008 spec.] iMac. But it is showing as an update on the App Store. How do I get rid of the little "1" update to do "flag" if I can never do the update?

If you hover over the item in Purchses in the App Store app, an "X" will appear. Clicking that hides the item.
Hi
Thanks for your reply. Great idea, unfortunately it has made no difference.

Only three issues I've found in mavericks so far. The Epson printer driver for the 3880 is not yet available nor is the driver for the V500 perfection scanner, although I can use the Apple image capture program if I'm desperate. The other one is that Kaspersky internet security will not install, according to them should be available by end of next week. As I did a fresh install I can always boot back to Mountain Lion.

The Epson 4490 scanner is also not supported at the moment - I hope that this is not a ploy to get one to upgrade the scanner..
I have experienced some issues that must be attributable to Maverick. I'm finding my wifi drops out quite frequently with loss of the ip address. This is fixed by rebooting. Secondly two of the remote reporting apps I use for work have stopped working. I think these are issues are due to problems between Maverick and Java. Luckily they work on an old Windows laptop. The few advantages, for me, are outweighed at the moment by the disadvantages.
I haven't noticed anything bad so far.
RE Epson Scanner support, the VueScan program works and enables one to scan documents.

Mavericks mail is extremely buggy for me. It's a mess I hope they fix soon.
I constantly have to rebuild Mail folders to get it in sync with the IMAP server. Sometime I have to relaunch the app to wake it up and get it working again. Toolbar icons disappear, etc.
Mail has been pretty crap recently for me , one of the worst apps/progs from Apple. Better on iPad/Phone IMO.

It worked pretty well for me pre-Mavericks. That's with three non-Apple IMAP accounts, two of them Gmail, one a company account.
I have a couple of e-mail accounts but both the IMAP ones show and showed error before Mavericks. One is BT one is Yahoo.
Mail.app on Mavericks is complete rubbish. Apple has apparently figured that out and is working to fix it. http://www.macrumors.com/2013/...cks-mail-app-issues/
I have never seen Mail.app any buggier and unstable than as in the current Mavericks incarnation.

Including IE - I can't attach anything, even a short word file!!
Sorry if I missed some point, but I'm not really understanding how IE is relevant to the discussion. There hasn't been a version of it that can run on any Mac OS in at least a decade.
As for Mail.app, file attachments work for me. But it has many problems dealing with gmail accounts in general.
I think Mavericks has a problem handling the TWAIN interface - It does not automatically transfer scanned images into the calling application but needs the image to be copy pasted into the main application.
I have found this problem both in Photoshop or Pixelmator when using the scanner to import images.
Preview works pretty well with the scanner and the Epson Scanner App does not even execute.
Fix the for Mail.app is in Software Update:
