Problems with Internet Explorer 11
Posted by: Fraser Hadden on 29 October 2013
After a forced move to Internet Explorer 11, as part of the Windows 8.1 update, I am advised by the site that:
"Your browser is unsupported. Please upgrade to a modern browser: Firefox · Safari · Google Chrome · Internet Explorer 8/9". (My italics).
I now can't sign in to the site via Internet Explorer 11 - I have had to do so via Chrome.
Deep joy. Does anyone know a work-round? Adding the Naim site to the Internet Explorer 11 compatibility list makes no difference.

The problem is not IE 11 it is the Hoopla software not being standards compliant.
If any other browser became as compliant as IE 11 then it would behave the same.
It is a problem already reported on the hoop la forum
But damn, IE 11 is fast.
Fraser, I'm afraid it looks like you'll have to wait until Hoop-La update the site to run on IE11. It seems to be a Java issue with the log-in screen. Until then I'd either undo the upgrade or use another browser to log-in. Personally I avoid upgrades until most bugs have been spotted and ironed out.
Hoop-La are aware of the issue and are checking it out.
I've been having serious problems today with the Windows 8.1 update (not the RT version AFAIK). These have been made worse by BT forcibly making my email access more difficult due to them giving up Yahoo mail, and IE11 not liking some of the add-ons I had been using (e.g. Yahoo toolbar)
After my laptop had been nagging me for a few days, I finally gave in and let it carry out the update. Things went a little pear-shaped afterwards, with the need to re-enter login information to Facebook etc, and it took me a while to get back to an acceptable screen set up. Email etc seemed to be working OK, but this morning ...
Unable to access my email. BT mail wasn't accepting my password, and when I tried to reset it, BT didn't seem to like the answers I gave to the security questions although I carefully copied them from my written back. Eventually tried to set up a BT login, although I have no wish to use most of their online facilities. Hit the problem again when I was supposed to access an email to confirm this setup.
So, I rang up the BT technical help desk, who confirmed that the security info I had given was correct, and they reset my email password. So off I went and finished setting up the BT account, and then tried to reset my email password again to something I might remember. Yet again it didn't accept my security question answers. I'll leave that alone for the 48 hours it apparently takes to finish setting up the account and then try again. Looks as though BT might have problems with this Windows upgrade as well!
I can't login to Naim Forums on my laptop as it wouldn't accept my password (submit greyed out after I entered it). Tried resetting the password. Same result. Contacted Naim. Steve Hopkins says OK their end. Tried to setup new Naim login just to see if that would work. Screen stopped at the hourglass cogwheel.
How am I posting this? From my iPad, although I did have to reset my password.

Thanks to all who responded. I don't think IE11 can be reverted to IE10, though. I will use Chrome for problematical sites.
The advice "Personally I avoid upgrades until most bugs have been spotted and ironed out." is a bit generic and not, I submit, applicable in this instance. Windows 8.1 was installed to overcome problems with 8.0, and IE11 was an indivisible - and, I think, irreversible - part of this. Further, if everyone waits for someone else to identify problems, software development grinds to a halt.
I understand that part of the problem is that Microsoft had a very limited beta program for 8.1, such that developers did not know what they were expected to develop for. That said, it is still startling that Hoopla does not even reference IE10!

Perhaps a lit firework awaits but it was seamless for me.
*Ah, I geddit, from IE 10 right?
No problems with Windows 8.1 update here either. Apart from the OS I stay clear of MS apps as much as I can, i.e. Mozilla Firefox for web browser, Thunderbird for email, OpenOffice, etc.
Have you tried using "compatibility view" mode in IE?
(Also, check for an update to the compatibility mode list)
Reality,
Yes. Compatibility View Mode solves one or two sites' problems, but not this one.
Fraser
It is fixed.
Just checked. You're correct. I've managed to login again on my laptop

.... giving up Yahoo mail, and IE11 not liking some of the add-ons I had been using (e.g. Yahoo toolbar)
I'm not sure why Yahoo is even a thing anymore. Hasn't every other company been doing things very much better for a very long time?
