Can't See PC's Music Folder (Anymore) - Help!

Posted by: Gavin B on 31 October 2013

Can anyone suggest a potential solution to this problem?

I have my FLAC files on a media PC.  I use Asset to serve the files to the Qute.  That all seems to be working fine.

I rip my CDs to iTunes on my laptop and then convert them to FLAC and write them to the media PC ready to be streamed to the Qute using dbPowerAmp.

But my latest two failed to convert,

This seems to be because the laptop can't see the music folder on the media PC.  Something must have changed because it worked previously.  I can see the media PC from the laptop, and I can see My Documents, My Photos and My Videos - I just can't see My Music.

Any thoughts?

Check you haven't accidentally moved My Music into one if the other folders. Easily done.

Check it isnt a hidden folder. (Depending on OS, right click the disk and look at Properties).

Can the Qute still play? If so presumably the folder's still there.

Do a search for a file you think should be there, eg a song title. If it is, look where it's stored.

Turn off and on again - router, media PC, laptop.

Why do you rip in iTunes and convert? I guess it makes no difference if you rip lossless. But wouldn't it be easier to rip with DB Poweramp in the first place . . . ? (Not relevant, just intrigued).

Hi Alex

I don't think it's moved - I could still see it on the media PC.  I think the Qute still plays - it was just the evening before I noticed this issue - but I'll check again tonight.

I re-booted both PCs but I'll try the router too tonight.

Why iTunes?  Well, that's just the way I started, and my primary reason for ripping is to put it onto an iPod for the car (which is probably where I log the most minutes of listening!).  I had lots of allbums in iTunes before I decided to dip my toe in the streaming waters, and the batch-convert with dbPoweramp got me up and running quickly.

Problem solved!

The Qute was still playing, and the folder hadn't moved, but I managed to fiddle around with the Share settings and I rebooted the router.  I suspect rebooting the router would have been enough as the folder nows seems more visible than before from the laptop.

Anyway, the two latest CDs have now been converted.
