no iBad, no iPhoney

Just another incentive for an android app, surely Naim didn't miss latest news? If Naim isn't able to do it in house, there are companies a plenty that can do it (for a price of a power cord or two) - and probably better then Naim - around every corner.

I don't own a tablet or smart phone, don't even plan to buy one. But if I was on a market for a damn expansive remote, it definitely wouldn't be coming from the apple tree.

I guess, I'm too old to lose it, too young to choose it...

And, oh, no, I'm not alone.

PS, I'm posting this in Hi-Fi Corner, because I don't see how RC could be more streaming-related then Hi-Fi.

This belongs in the Streaming Audio because you want to control a streamer with your 'RC'.  You don't own a a tablet or smart phone but you want an Android app. What are you going to use it on? I'm in a position where I can consider streaming in my main system but I can't be bothered with it at the moment given all the conflicts and grief I hear on this forum. The forum is full of streaming posts so please don't contaminate the HiFi Corner with it. Please.

I think it's more an issue of not clogging up HiFi Corner with pointless posts.

Just out of curiosity–how many of you use Amazon's Kindle Fire range of tablets, or, are you mostly using vanilla Android devices?  Kobo or Nook devices?  Any other forked versions of Android?

Android has an impressive overall market share rate but Apple has a massive lead in the market for high value customers. These are the same type of customers who are more likely to have they type of money required for a Naim audio system. Therefore, its more logical for Naim to develop for Apple products. Personally, I would prefer a comprehensive PC/Mac application for n-Stream over a Android version.

What's your basis for these statements? "Impressive, massive, high value" are all subjective without numbers.

I'd love to find something like an updated Philips Pronto. We still use one for our TV, BDP and other IR-controlled stuff.

Pronto was great because it allowed the average consumer, with a bit of patience and much satisfaction when you'd done it, to configure quite complicated controls for lost of different things at once. You could download commands easily and combine them together just the way you wanted. You had a touchscreen but, unlike Ipad, you also had programmable hard buttons which were much better than a touchscreen for things like volume control. Of course it was only IR control but then the Ipad does not do IR control, only IP.

So I'd love to see an updated Pronto. Consumer-programmable so you're not paying someone thousands to configure Crestron or similar in a way that you don't like, just to control the TV and the hifi and maybe dim the lights. Programmable hard buttons as well as a touch screen. IP control as well as IR; preferably RS232 as well though I accept that this is not so easy for consumers. The ability to download apps as well as IR, IP and RS232 codes.

My Naim kit is HDX, DAC and Nait XS and with the thing I have described I could have a "play music library" button that would call-up nStream on the touchscreen to control the music selection and select the HDX as the source for the DAC; while the hard buttons controlled the volume on the Nait XS.

Its the same old statistics innit, All android phones vs two from apple. A fairer idea of sales is those android devices that sit in the same price bracket as iphone, such as Samsungs galaxy S range, where by we find that actual like for like is neck in neck.

Still an argument for an android app I suppose, but saying 82% over iphone is silly talk as this includes all android phones, including cheap as chips, where apple is simply not interested in playing.

I'm rather surprised and disappointed by some of the remarks on this thread. It's very simple, I don't want to use Apple products. I've tried and I'm just not a fan. I still have an iPod Touch that I don't like using. I have an Android-based phone and tablet and I really enjoy using my tablet to control my Squeezebox Touch that feeds my DAC/XPS2. These days, it really shouldn't be too much to ask for an Android app.

The correlation between someone who can "afford" a Naim system and Apple - utter nonsense.

The best would be that Naim makes a portable Player with Wlan.Beside Apple and Sony, there ain´t much choice and I have my doubts with devices from A&K, iBasso, FiiO and the like. In the press they are high praised but when you move to the Forums, than there is a lot of complaining and Apple scores usually the best, but either they have no Wlan ( classic) or not enough storage on the other models and I don´t Need all the extra´s wich I can do with my Smartphone.

I'm with you Arun. I'll keep using my iPad right up until the second a stable and reliable nStream comes out on a different platform. nServe isn't such a problem for me but I'd welcome being able to use it on a portable device which wasn't Apple.

The nearest thing to a Pronto I found is the URC MX-3000. Superb device if a little Dan Dare styled. Very easy to set up and infinitely customisable. No IP functionality though. I didn't get on with the posh Logitec touch screen thing. Had two, both were buggy. Got fed up with them.
