Calling all closet country fans...

Posted by: Andrew on 16 November 2013

I love the guitar work of Brent Mason (of "hotwired" fame), Danny Gatton and I always loved the country-inspired licks in the solos of guitarists such as Steve Howe, Jeff "Skunk" Baxter et al. I would be grateful for any suggestions of cool, well-recorded Nashville/country music where the guitar is very much to the fore, or slide-guitar, dobro, banjo, violin. On another thread, I picked up on Sarah Jarosz and I really like her music.

Thanks!

Try:

John Gorka

Jim Almand

Phil Cook   I saw him play at Norwich recently and he was fantastic.

I will add others as my memory catches up with this question

Tony Rice is a skosh more bluegrass than country, but well worth a listen. Try "Manzanita" and "Church Street Blues".
