Dog lovers vs Cat lovers: US vs Europe
Posted by: joerand on 22 November 2013
It's just a casual observation, but with regard to avatars, I seem to notice more cats in the UK/Europe and more dogs in the US.
And there has been a recent topic here on cats that originated in the UK.
Maybe it's a matter of open space. Dogs rule the sprawling outdoor ranges of the US, while cats rule the indoors of Europe sitting on their owners' laps?
Mine is a South African
She doesn't do lap sitting or walkies
I don't like dogs but I do like cats.
Simple as that.

Obama has a dog called Sunny,
Camaron loves fat cats with Money.
Larry the household cat of number 10 sneeks past American tourist, Phil Silvers.
I tend to associate dog owners with control freaks.
And, lets not forget all dog owners are inconsiderate selfish prats. The number of times I've had to take evasive action on my bike when an errant canine has crossed my path. Not blaming the dogs, more the morons on the other end of retractable lead.
Camaron loves fat cats with Money.
Thank goodness I don't have any.
Do any of them ride a bike?
Dogs are stupid creatures that shit everywhere, annoy people by barking and chase after me when I'm out running. Cats are wonderful. It's simple.
You're all weird. Dogs rule.

I'm with Rod and here's why:
And dogs look up to us, cats look down. Dogs are faithful, cats fickle.

Either you like animals or you don't. If you only like cats but not dogs or vice versa, I dare say there is something wrong with you and your reasons for liking one but not the other. Maybe it's time to see that psychologist?
Cats are cool. Dogs are great, if they are real dogs and not guinea pigs...

I think it's more the stupid owners who let them crap everywhere and don't clean up afterwards. In the country side that's fine but inner cities? Not very pleasant...

Responsible dog owners clean up afterwards. Cat owners don't...which is annoying because cats tend to crap in other gardens, not their own.
Responsible dog owners clean up afterwards. Cat owners don't...
As a cat owner who regularly cleans up after his cat who despite a clean litter box prefers to decorate the ceramic tile in my bathroom for my early morning pleasure, I beg to differ.

Apologies, that should have read cat servant.
... which excludes me from your argument.
I retract my statement.
Nice one, Jan-Erik. I withdraw mine, too, well for some cat owners/servants.
Dog thinks: "These people - they look after me, they house me, they feed me, they take me to the vet when I am ill, and they love me.
They must be gods."

Dog thinks, I'll lick my arse, then I'll lick my owner's face. They are so stupid, they'll think it's sweet to kiss me.
Cat thinks, I'll engage with my human on my terms.
Cats are cool. Which is all good.

The dog and cat psychology by rod smith is stereotypical dog vs cat dogma.
Ya dawg is primarily a social hierarchy animal. You are the pack leader ( you had better hope) and he wants to please the boss.
Cats are a bit more like a commune of individuals. They still have a hierarchy but there is more individual action. You see it when you have 2 cats. I have one cat that gets separation anxiety. When I iron a shirt to go out he wants to sit on my shoulder while I iron. He shows great determination to get his 12 year old carcass up there just to try and stop me going anywhere.
His younger companion loves the game of fetch ( with a boars bristle pastry brush cos it tastes great) because he can't compete with his limpet like companion. He is a cat cat, he loves the old guy as much as he likes people. He likes to shadow the other cat, but this freaks the old guy out.
With dogs you run with the pack, you operate as a pack, you stick by your pack. With cats it's everyone doing their own thing for their own reasons, and sometimes it's communal, but at the end of the day you best bet for survival is your own skills. It's a Darwin thing.
I don't think this was meant to be another mindless dog vs cat debate ( I like them both by the way, what's it with these people that don't have pets at all ). For me animals are part of the diversity of nature and life. After a day in a air conditioned office I want to be reminded of the wild. it just happens that dog like ( people loving) cats fit my enforced weekly regime best. If I was a tradie or worked from home a dog would be cool also.
The twenty magpies that congregate on the footpath up the road, the possums on the cable tv wires, the fruit bats in the trees. I just love them all, just not in the house.

That's cause they're smart
Anyways, at least they burry their crap. Good for garden odour bad for the plants though....

That's brave coming from a duck.
