iPad to run nServe -- Mini or Full Size?
Posted by: Bart on 22 November 2013
I need to buy myself an iPad, and using it for nServe will be a major (but not exclusive) use of it.
Have any of you tried both the mini and full-size and have any comments or preferences? Do you get the exact same layout, but just smaller, on the mini? Even if that's the case, there seems to be a bit of wasted landscape in nServe so maybe that's not too bad. In general, my 53 yr old eyes like larger screens.

I have both and they are the same. The new mini iPad has a retina screen so personally I'd opt for one of them. But I almost always. My iPad 4. It is better for things like posting on the forum.
Full size definitely! The Mini is too fidly. No two ways about it!
Otherwise you might just as well use your iPhone, if you got one.
Using an iPad as your control point is all about the user experience and, thus, ease of use. The larger the tablet the more pleasant the experience. That experience starts with the font size and ends with the total information being displayed legibly and in an orderly fashion on "one single page", so to speak. That's not considering the quality of the control software itself of course.
All this only holds true up to a point though, but the standard iPad still falls into the acceptable size category IMO.
Best to check it out yourself at the nearest Mac store.
P.S. I somewhat prefer the previous generation of iPads to the new iPad Air, which to me is just too light. I simply enjoy the weight and form & feel factor of the previous design. The Retina version would be my choice. As always, YMMV. I can see though how others might prefer the new and lighter version.
Imo.
Hi Bart,
One thing to keep in mind is posture when using the iPad. The heavier the device, the more it tends to find itself in the lap, which leads to a hunched positon and neck strain. The lightest and most readable device is the best option.
As a general guide :
iPod Touch : 88 g
iPhone : 112 g
iPad Mini : 308 g
iPad Mini Retina : 341 g
iPad Air : 469 g

That's pushing things a bit far TP it's a completely different interface on the iPhone
Hi Allen, yes the comparison was a bit OTT, I admit it
I still think it's much nicer to have your app on the larger screen of the standard iPad though. Checked out the iPad Air again yesterday and I have to concede, it is actually rather nice.
Btw. sorry for never sending that most favourite list, time got in the way. Did you see my recommendation on the "Best Albums of 2013... So Far!" thread? If you haven't bought the set yet, don't hesitate, it's a killer!

I got an iPad mini as I found our iPad 2 a little too cumbersome in general terms. However, the latest iPads are a little more easy to handle with their smaller form factor. I find the mini fine though.

Agree, Mini is the perfect size as a remote, always found the full size to clumsy.
