An Old Thread: "Obama Inauguration"
Posted by: Russ on 25 November 2013
Having created my latest thread on the American President's Health Care law, I did some searching for nostalgia purposes and found the thread from 2009 titled as above. I wanted to revive it but found it was no longer possible to do that--I suppose for good reasons.
However, that thread expressed very many very sincere and interesting (some conflicting) opinions--and so many of them really reflected the hope that this President, a charismatic and inspirational orator, instilled not only in all of his supporters but in many who had their doubts about his policies. I would genuinely like to hear the current opinions of those who expressed themselves on the thread way back when.
As will be clear from my previous threads and posts, I opposed the President from the start. In the Texas primary I voted for Hillary Clinton because I considered her the worst of two evils, then held my nose and voted for McCain in the general election--then, fingers on same nose and for the same reasons, for Mitt Romney in 2012. When Obama was elected I truly wanted him to fail--not because I did not like him, but because I genuinely felt that the policies he proposed would lead to the downfall of many of the institutions of the United States which I support.
Having grown up in the segregated South, I understood the historic nature of his election--and felt what a good role model he could be for young blacks just now growing up. (on the other hand I could not help wishing it were Conoleeza Rice standing with her hand on the Bible!
So for those of you who weighed in or even just shared some of the thoughts of those who did, I would very much like to hear what you think now.
Best regards,
Russ
