Got issues Asset UPnP and BT Home Hub 5

Posted by: Crealkilla on 27 November 2013

Hi

Recently purchased the uniti2 and whilst very easy to set up. Downloaded Asset UPnP to and linked my iTunes. Constantly my n-Stream app is saying no server!!

Connected via wireless and signal is strong, I have also been advised that I should consider a Network Drive and adding all my music files to this and changing my router to something more suited to UPnP.

Comments and advice welcome.

I am not quite sure the relevance of the BT Home Hub? Anyway you don't state what you are running Asset on. If it has an internal firewall, like on Windows machines, you need to ensure the firewall allows access to your local LAN for Asset under the firewall settings. On my setup this didn't happen by default and I had to manually set it up. Once done all your devices can discover the Asset upnp server.

Wired access and Network drives are unlikely to be  relevant to your issue. The HomeHub, along with most consumer broadband routers, supports UPnP.

Hello Crealkiller

When I first started the streaming thing about three years ago I did pretty much what you are doing.  Bought a Uniti, downloaded a bit of software to my PC to be my uPnP server off my iTunes library, and off I went.

I never found that to work reliably, and the same was true when I bought an iMac with a different piece of uPnP software.

Whether that was down to my network config, my PC / iMac setup, or my own incompetence I have no idea.  But it just did not work reliably.  As Simon says there is no reason why this should not work reliably, but for me it didn't.

What I now have is a Unitiserve, a SuperUniti, and 2 Qutes in my house, all wired with a single switch and an Airport Extreme as my router.  Plus a NAS for automated from the UnitiServe.  It is not rock-solid stable and reliable.

I'm not suggesting you have to go this far, but if you don't have the IT skills to figure out exactly what the issue is with your computer / network / uPnP server config then the thing that I think will make the most difference in making this simple and reliable is to get a NAS drive and use that as your dedicated storage / server device.

Simon,

It's running of my Mac Pro, just yesterday i have tried several UPnP servers and pretty much the same. Got a techy guy coming over next week to configure so hopefully will have the thing sorted.
