mac mini/naimv1 dac how close to a streamer -tips?

IME, Mac Mini via Toslink into the Naim DAC 555 sounds better than stock Sonos via either Tos or copper.  The Sonos has a better interface than iTunes/Remote.app, and is perhaps more immune than iTunes to being held up by a prompt to update something.  

I do not know if USB from the Mac into the DAC V1 is better than Tos between same.

Interested to know your findings.

I have been using the V1 with a Mac Mini and NAP200 since April this year and am extremely happy with the SQ regardless of the resolution of the music stream (I.e. Internet radio, iTunes downloads, CD rips, or high res downloads). 

When I bought the V1 from my local dealer, I also demoed the Naim DAC. My impression was that the V1 and Naim DAC presented the music slightly differently.  The V1 was not run in and the DAC was bare, so not conclusive but enough to make my decision.

Like @wat, I also use Audivirna for playback with iTunes, and XLD for ripping CDs to AIFF And find this combination and elegant solution. 

IME, V1 and Mac Mini are Both easy to use and maintain. I use the free Apple Remote apps on iPads or iPhones.

It would be interesting to hear your findings from demoing the V1 and Naim DAC with your NAC202, if you decide to do so.

Whilst the Linn Majik ds gave a great sound quality - it's interface was primaeval compared with the Sonos and it often dropped the airplay connection

There's a spare mac mini and I'm trying to work out how close the quality is to the Linn

-with the mac mini as a source into the Naim dac v1

- the Sonos connect into the digital input of the dac v1

but the sonos connect into the V1 dac with the optical is really great!
