Copy controlled CD

Posted by: Ingenius on 30 November 2013

Hi guys!

Just tried to rip my Royksopp CD which has a sticker on the front saying " copy controlled" It wouldn't under "secure" rip settings in Dbpoweramp even after the max 6 attempts. Had to set it to "burst" Which it ripped ok but wasnt an accurate rip All sounds fine though .

i don't know much about this protection ..but is this used much on modern CDs .

regards

I don't think it used much nowadays as virtually all ripping software can defeat it. The Macrovision version used deliberate parity errors in code to ensure that attempts at bit-perfect copies were hard to achieve (the error checking would always show a mistake had been made and the process would stall). Burst mode rippers aren't bothered so much by errors and just get on with job, but you may not have a perfect rip. It only matters if it sounds bad.
