Can't wait to get my NDS!

Posted by: Fokkelman on 01 December 2013

I just ordered a NDS streamer with Unitiserve to replace my CDS2. I sincerely hope the NDS can beat my loyal CDS2.

Well, I'll keep you posted.

NDS the best upgrade I ever made.

Well, I'll keep you posted.

I made the same upgrade and can assure you that you will NOT be disappointed! Whilst listening at the dealer's premises I listened to my CDS2 with the 555PS - that was an astonishing improvement in itself.

I could copy  and paste any of the comments above.

You're going to be in for a wonderful time. Will it arrive before the break? You'll have a very happy week if it does.

Hi Fred,

Me too, about ten days ago.

Can you describe the rest of your system? It seems to me that the NDS is finding a happy home in quite a variety of setups.

Sorry Keith, I missed that. Congratulations and please give us some feedback.

Hi Harry,

No problem

I took a leaf out of your book and tried Signals (24 bit) as one of my test files. Good call, the muddy sound turns  to cream. For me, that album has always sat in the shadow of Moving Pictures, but it's   superb in its own way.

The next question will be what goes on the top shelf; the 252 or the NDS?

Hi Keith,

After a long being idle I've got the upgrade taste of it again. Currently I have 2 135's, NAC52 + Supercap, NAP555PS and CDS2. I'm unsure what the next upgrade path will be. Replace my NAC52 for a NAC252 or replace the 135's for a NAP300?

Posted on: 01 December 2013 by Steve J

Keep the 135s and try and get a 552. A 252 is a sidestep IMO.

I would endorse Steve J's comments.  Keep the NAP135s until the 552 is installed and (or if) you feel the need for a NAP500..

Best regards, FT

Hi Fred,

Not a million miles from my setup so we should experience similar SQ improvements. I will try to put it into words here, as Harry suggests.

I can't imagine that I will ever be able to afford (justify) a 552 but perhaps a 300. Before that, I would be nice to DR the SC and 555.

No it's not of course - silly boy does like to tease.

The 252 is an enormous improvement that is proportionately affordable - no point bothering with the 300 though - unless you have bad ventilation - before swapping for a 552.

Enjoy Fred, I am sure you will enjoy the streaming experience and NDS doesn't half sound good to boot. Fingers crossed you get before Christmas..

Sorry Chris................... but I was being serious for once.

I'm streaming in a much more modest way, with a SuperUniti, having replaced my CDS2. It sounds really wonderful, so I can only imagine what a NDS/555 must be like. With the UnitiServe it's all very easy, and I'm sure you'll love it.

I would suggest that while it's on order, if you have $399 available, that you invest in a linear power supply for the Serve. It makes a big difference and is well worthwhile.

Two wide grins due here shortly. best wishes to you both.

Signals is a good call Keith, although a minority interest in the greater musical scheme of things. I found a lot of information elevated from the soup, and the soup itself less dense and more flowing. Although my ears' default tuning seems to be biased towards bass/mid bass (slowness, inaccuracy, sludge, seem to irritate more than a harsh top, for example), the way the cymbals shimmered without grit and decayed sideways on Digital Man was one of those "are my ears deceiving me?" experiences. Think you know the bass line(s) in 2112? Just wait.....

I don't know if I will ever so much money for a 552 pre. I have never done a A/B comparison with a NAC52 and a NAC252. So I don't know what to expect. If the upgrade is minimal the best thing is to wait for a second hand 552... if the price is reasonable.

From the usual seller of power supplies for Naim equipment.  If you Google it you'll find it.
