Free Linn Christmas tracks but problems
Posted by: Claus-Thoegersen on 01 December 2013
Like last year, Linn is giving away a free 24 bit track each day until Christmas. Actually they started out with one track some days ago.
Today there are 3 tracks available. My problem is that I cannot activate the download link, absolutely nothing happens when I activate the link. Tried both with IE anf Firefox.
Have others had better luck?
Yes I did it a short while ago Claus, but didn't encounter any problems.
Is there an option to do it direct from the Linn website maybe?
Another success here. If do "browse" in the studio masters section you'll find it there.
Calum
Same here. I have all three tracks safely downloaded. Sorry I can't help to identify the issue but I can further confirm that it's working for some of us.
I have also just downloaded successfully
Do they sound great ,worth paying for .

No problem downloading here either.
You are required to enter registration and billing details however.
I can download but then won't load into iTunes even when I specify Apple compatible version.
Same here Loki. A bit odd because they do appear to be ALAC files. Can't do anything with them...
I'll maybe try downloading the FLAC versions & converting to AIFF.
Seems fine for me too. Oxygene playing 24/48 flac with Cog.
Loki/Tony,
Apologies if this is really obvious, but you could try searching for the ALAC file you've downloaded by name (eg 'Oxygene') using Windows Search/Spotlight etc, highlight it, and click on 'play' or 'open with iTunes' if it's not your default music player.
Works for me.
Yep, done that CC. All very odd...
Cluster,
I Managed to get them all so far, 3 days worth. Some problems I faced:
1. I had a small hiccup when the system effected a change of the name of my external HDrive by suffixing it with a "- 1" when I plugged it directly by USB into my MBPro whereas earlier it was plugged into the wifi router. this was the target disk for the music downloads.
2. I did find however that it took a huge amount of patience finding the download manager download. This is downloaded alongwith Adobe AIR, which I thought was for installing the download mgr, and which I trashed after installing the download mgr. Big mistake! Reinstalling AIR did the trick.
3. This one's not a problem - It seems you can use other download mgrs available gratis on the net. The good thing about managers is that they tend to setup the file hierarchy automatically and correctly.
Make sure there's sufficient memory in your drive. I do not know whether it is smart enough to tell you there's not enough HD space to go around.

I have had different problems. An all Apple wired network with a UnitiServe/NDX streaming.
Unable to download from the Linn site, loaded Adobe Air only to be told that the download air manager is from an unsecure site. However running the download manager from the Applications folder, i.e. NO Air suffix, does work.
My next problem, which is down to Apple, I think, is that I am unable, using Finder, to drag/drop the downloaded files into the download folder on the US. Finder says that connection to the US failed.
The system is working, either from the IMac or either of the iPad apps
Any Mac experts out there? I am not too IT experienced, which does not help
I'm hitting snags today. At first there was no option to buy but after a few refreshes I finally got the option. Went through the payment (£0.00) procedure and got as far as the download link, which goes to an unavailable page. I expect the server is having a bad hair day. I've got until 10am tomorrow to get it and if I fail I will report back.
EDIT: now playing from my HDD. I think we just need to be patient with the server.

Do not own a US, but from an Apple point of view, click on the 'settings' option towards the top right of the Linn download manager, in the ensuing settings window click on 'change' Download Location and use the finder window which opens to select the US downloads folder (typically blue highlight) and click open at the bottom right of the finer window. This of course will work if the US is visible on the network you are using. Linn downloads will henceforth be saved into this folder.
If not visible:
The US network address (something like 10.0.1.2) can automatically change for e.g. to 10.0.1.3 if it was off network and another device took the US's existing address on your LAN, you may have to either manually change the network address to the US's actual current address which can probably be found on the iPad/Mac app (n-serve?), or allow the app to search for devices again.
You may also have the option of selecting the downloaded file wherever it has been saved (downloads folder?) and control-clicking on it, this may give you the option of selecting n-serve or US, you can infect select multiple files and control-click with the same results provided all are compatible with the application you select to open them with, e.g. iTunes will not open .flac files.
