Who likes the new Likes?

Posted on: 04 December 2013 by Julian H

What's that horrid blue bit around the "Featured Topics" and "Topics" headers for? And the white buttons? Yuk!

There's too much Bro'mance around here!

I'm pleased the severed 'contract' is working for you.   Anything for a quieter life.

Shame the pink hearts have gone, I thought they were helping us get in touch with our feminine sides.

Poof!

And they're gone.

What do the four white bits do - only the reply with quote seems to have any use?

Get rid of it Naim, it sucks!

Ironic that you're talking about kids' stuff with that reply.

"too gay", "more a girls' thing"

I've raised my teens not to make such stereotypical comments and hopefully they know better. And I consider them kids.

Edit / delete / report are alternatives not shown at the same time (or are time restricted)

Posted on: 05 December 2013 by Richard Dane

I have more than those listed, yes.  Edit and delete post should only show very briefly after posting whereas they're permanently available for moderators.

Report post should be permanently available - if it's not please let me know.

Joe, it's alright, you're American. We understand that Americans don't do irony. Some think they do. But they don't.

Hi Richard,

The "Last edited by..." postscript kicks in immediately after posting. It's annoying...

Formerly, there was a delay of about 5 minutes, which allowed correction of typos, removal of extra blank space inserted by Hoopla, etc.

Any chance of returning to the 5 minutes delay?

Yes, I concur.  It does it even for me.  I'll look into it.

You're so American Joe.   Don't take everything you read on here seriously.

Is the Permalink the little ribbon thing? It doesn't seem to do anything, but as I have no idea what a Permalink is I cannot be sure. I worked out reply with quote though.

Posted on: 05 December 2013 by Richard Dane

HH,

pressing the permalink button gives you a link in your browser that you then copy and paste that will take you directly to that particular post.

Posted on: 05 December 2013 by Richard Dane

Regarding the "Last Edited by" dialog, I'm told that this was originally on a significant edit basis - i.e minor quick edits wouldn't trigger it but it would be triggered by a more major edit within the allotted timeframe.  This has changed with the latest update and so I have disabled it.  You now have 15 minutes in which to make any edits to your post, which should be long enough to correct any mistakes, but any edits will not have a "Last Edited by" dialog.  Moderators can of course edit a post at any time however this will usually have a "Moderated Post" dialog added by the moderator to the bottom of the post.

Why?

Posted on: 05 December 2013 by Richard Dane

Chris, it means you get to link directly to a specific post in the page rather than to just a page where you then have to scroll through to find the post.  Quite handy sometimes.

Hmm - not entirely convinced yet. I hope that others will enjoy it.

I'm a cynic though. I am frequently told what I should want from technology - but when I explain what I actually do want it is apparently not deliverable and that I should want something else
