JRiver media server "disappearing" after few minutes

Posted by: Dambor on 05 December 2013

I have MC version 19 installed in my iMac with OSX Mavericks. My music library sits on a Sinology DS213+ and my music streamer is a Naim ND5XS, that I control via the n-stream app.

As I open the JR MC, both the ND5XS and the n-stream app "recognize" the JR MC Media Server and I can access my music. But after a few minutes, the server "disappears" from the server list and I can not longer access my music, unless I "manually restart" the server in my iMac.

This only happens with JR MC. I have Synology's DiskStation on my NAS and Plex both on the NAS and on the iMac and all work perfectly.

Any ideas on how to solve this? Thanks!

Move the music on your mac to the nas?

Thanks Garyi,

The music library is already in the NAS

I had same problem.  Are you also running windows via fusion?  I found this happens when i have windows 7 running via fusion.  I disconnected the network from the win instance and the problem has not reocurred.

Do you have the most recent version of JR?

I have mountain lion.  I also noticed this happened when running multiple upnp servers on my iMac.  Running asset, minim and jr.  Jr would disappear form time to time.  I shut off the asset and minim and away went the problem.

Sorry if i am being a plank but why are you trying to run a media server from the mac to pick up music from the nas?

i would recommend installing plex media server. Launch this in the mac and pick the music on the nas as a music section, your uniti etc will pick this server up just fine.

This is almost certainly because when multiple upnp applications are running on the same platform the discovery messages are not being seen and processed concurrently by all applications at the same time reliably. You will probably find if you have one upnp application running in a high priority, you have no problems, and the more apps you run, or the lower priority you run the app, then the more unreliable discovery becomes, and apps may disappear and reappear from time to time.

@simon-in-suffolk & Kevin: i'll check switching off some upnp servers and see if it works

Thanks to all

Stopping Plex in the iMac solved the problem. Thanks!
