Restoring ripped CD's to Unitiserve
Posted by: Burgy100 on 06 December 2013
Has anybody restored their backed up CD's to a new Unitiserve? I cannot find anywhere on how to do this. Any help or pointing me in the right direction would be much appreciated.
Steve
Hi Burgy, it's easy if you can copy the backup to the MD folder in the music store, then all you need to do is 'rescan' the music store.
But if you can't do this, then create a new share on an external NAS and promote it to a music store ('use as store' in desktop client, tools menu) - this creates the MD folder. Then copy your backed up ripped CDs into the MD folder and again choose 'use as store'. Your US will rescan the 'new' store which is on your NAS drive.
Finally use the web interface - system, manage music, move music to move your music from the 'new' store into the original US music store. Then use 'manage music stores' to remove the new (now empty) store and finally delete it from your NAS.
Of course, if you don't have a NAS drive, you may have to figure another way to do this, like emailing Phil Harris, and of course I'm assuming your backed up ripped CDs were originally ripped using a US or an HDX, so are ready for indexing by your new US.
...as I said... easy
(mind you people's definition of 'easy' varies)
Sorry... "and again choose 'use as store'." should read "and select 'rescan store' "
Sorry Have not responded, been away for the weekend. Many Thanks for this. I assume you have already done this

Steve,
rjstaines' solution works.
Don't move too many albums at a time, select maybe 500 move them, check the job and do another batch.
Many Thanks rjstaines and Manu for your advice and wisdom, its much appreciated.
