Listening Chain Challenge

Posted by: GraemeH on 08 December 2013

Let's see if this works:

I'm listening to the album Above. The challenge is to suggest the next album you will listen to which has a link to it.  The link must be described by you and can be as obvious (eg. same artist - potentially boring) or as un-obvious (some hitherto unknown/unexpected connection - potentially interesting), or as oblique as you like.

Points for the most unexpected/clever/funny connections.

(And what do we do when we don't have the proposed album ? Think of some arbitrary link for oneself and listen to Rick Astley ? )

Lunch over Char, move your bottom and let's go ! Oh well, maybe just before...

Lynyrd Skynyrd, One More for from the Road

Ok, this. Lyn Skyn had a singer called Ronnie van Zandt

To Live Is To Fly (by Townes Van Zandt) performed by the Cowboy Junkies.

(I had a link ready tying together both America and Lynrd Skynrd : Dorset Perception, by Sphongle from Tales of The Inexpressible, but Kevin's link nixed that plan. Anyway, 100 FEPs to anyone who gets the link.... come to think of it, Maurice got there first

[ I'll try: Horse with No Name, then dubbed Desert Song, was demoed in a studio in Puddleton, Dorset, hometown of Arthur Brown, well-remembered for liking putting his hair on fire on stage, and who lost some in the process.

Lynyrd Sknyrd took their name from Leonnard Skinner, Van Zant's physical education teacher who couldn't stand boys wearing long hair.

At least that's what I can lazily get from Wikipedia... (I wanted to find something linking Crazy World, Brave New World, and the Doors of Perception, but I'm afraid I can't.) ]

(Not sure where I must go from there, Char, so I'll go back to the Junkies if you don't mind.)

The Junkies famous first album was The Trinity Sessions.

1. In the beginning Man created God; and in the image of man created him.

[...]

7. But as all thee things did come to pass, the Spirit that did cause man to create his God lived on within all men [...]

9. But for Christ's sake [...]

Jethro Tull, Aqualung 40th Anniversary Collector's Edition

(In a bit of classic rock remixes craze at the moment. Blame Harry.)

7. But as all these things did come to pass, the Spirit that did cause man to create his God lived on within all men: even within Daevid Allen.

8. And man saw it not.

9. But for Christ's sake he better start looking.

Gong, Acid Motherhood

From the obscure to the obvious :

Brilliant, you made a link to Aqualungs at the same time...

Graeme - you might have to be appointed arbiter of the next album in the chain.  Which of the suggestions is picked, and then we can move on from there (with more suggestions).  Perhaps you can build up a list of the chain within your 'decision' reply?

Great, I was reminded to listen to these ones the other day, as they're coming downtown for a concert:

Therion, Lemuria

Posted on: 09 December 2013 by Kevin-W

Also Swedish -

I was going to post this , the Therion cover reminds me of a Black diamond.

But then released it was released the same year as Fernando, what's the chance of that.

Diamond is an everlasting rock.

And also because, as Georges Brassens used to say: "Quand je pense à Fernande..."

The Band, Rock of Ages

Another New Orleans Blues pianist.

La fête à la crevette ! C'est Fernande qui est contente !

A veeery good one as well Jan.

I try sometimes to help Adam practise a bit of French, with not much success I'm afraid. (And, in my view, he better start with Brel or Barbara than Brassens or Ferré, to make things a little bit easier for himself.)

Prof Longhair and Champion Jack are artists I must get interested in. Thanks to both for digging them out.

Another dog of the day.
