Listening Chain Challenge

Posted by: GraemeH on 08 December 2013

Let's see if this works:

I'm listening to the album Above. The challenge is to suggest the next album you will listen to which has a link to it.  The link must be described by you and can be as obvious (eg. same artist - potentially boring) or as un-obvious (some hitherto unknown/unexpected connection - potentially interesting), or as oblique as you like.

Points for the most unexpected/clever/funny connections.

Here's me thinking it was the hair.

Ok, now if Aquarius is concerned, then it's time to bring out this:

The Zodiac Cosmic Sounds

Absolutely cult, ridiculously stuck into its era, one of these albums that is in a way so stupid that it's good. 12 songs, one per zodiac sign, with spoken word narration over psychedelic music. A favourite of mine in my teens (thanks to my elder sister), I bought the vinyl again years ago just to be sure, and must still have a cassette somewhere.

It happens to have finally been released on CD in 2002 and it can be sampled on Amazon and Qobuz (it's wrongly attributed to The Zodiac, with the title Cosmic Sounds). The mastering is inevitably poor compared to the vinyl (the original has very broad dynamics, from almost silent to very loud), but at least you can get an idea.

As a concerned Aquarian, I strongly recommend Tunng's Comments of the Inner Chorus if you are the slightest bit interested in psychedelia, or folk music, or the shimmering air where the two meet.

Hit Me with Your Best Shot !

Maurice Richard ! For me it instantly means this:

Paul Piché, A qui appartient l'beau temps

Hmmm, too easy that was.

Paul Piché, one of wife's favourite artists and the first live concert we attended as a newly formed couple. We had lots of fun with "t'as les boules basses ma belle" ... and the reply of course!

A bit more challenging then:

Didn't know there was a new 35th anniversary expanded edition. Is it worth it ? I bought the CD last century in this incredible music store that spanned 2 or 3 small old buildings in Montréal. I don't remember its name, and I think it's closed now.

Hmmm... Houses of the Holy...

The Giant's Causeway in Ulster, a photoshoot for ten days in the rain, and much controversy. It speaks for itself:

Stiff Little Fingers, Inflammable Material

Impressive work ! Didn't know about the anniversary edition, so thanks, it will make a perfect stocking stuffer for my wife. Now, about those Rhythm Devils...
