Backing up from a Synology NAS to a Time Capsule

Posted by: Michel Werner on 09 December 2013

Hi everybody,

Please apologize if this question has been asked already but its getting late and I can't find the right answer.

I have my Synology NAS as a server for my music linked to an ethernet network and want to back it up. I have bought a Time capsule and want to use it for regular unattended backup. It is also linked to my ethernet network. The problem is that I can only back up through my Mac which takes time and uses the wifi. I have not found how to make the NAS recognize the time capsule, mount it an do the back up. There is a program but it seems to recognize only other Synology NAS.

The Time capsule is connected to the ethernet and serves as a switch for the NAS via ethernet cables.

I am lost. Is the solution to connect the Time Capsule to the NAS via USB? Would it still be able to serve as an airport to extend my wifi network.

Please help!

Michel

I didn't/don't think that you can use a Time Capsule like any ol' usb drive.

I recommend buying a 500 gb (or larger or smaller depending on your needs) usb hard drive and backing up to it.  Problem solved.
