Speakers for Unitiqute 2, need to wall mount for small study

Posted by: Steve Vaughan on 17 December 2013

Hi I am about to buy a UQ2, to replace a Rega based system which I like but is too big for the converted garage I have to listen to. I need some speakers to go with, up to £600, but will need to be wall mounted as I don't have room for stands. I know Neat IOTA is well regarded, but these are a little too small I feel. Any suggestions? Also, can I use no Naim speaker cable for this, as I want use small diameter cable to hide in a conduit. Thanks!

I prescribe a pair of used nSats, with Chord Rumour to connect them up. Failing that, PMC DB1i.

Anyone know or have the Dali Menuet?

Guru Juniors are so superior to the Iotas. A little over budget but well worth the difference. Have a good listen.

This is somewhere I'll probably be going next year. Thank you for the update. What brackets did you use?

Dali do a dedicated wall bracket, works really well

Id also recommend the Neats. Neat speakers pair extremely well with Naim and as mentioned I'm sure you'd be surprised at the full sound they can create.

There's no point recommending the Neats to someone who has just bought the Dalis, surely?

Completely agree. Although another member could be in the same position and appreciate the advice... I'm glad Steve is happy with the Dali's, excellent choice.

Thanks anyway, appreciate the advice. Another one if I may; I also bought a Rega fono (the one with the USB A/D), haven't connected it yet via the analogue in, but what position should I put the ground switch? The fono isn't earthed as is uses a wall wart, but the T/T (SL1200) is, as is the arm/cartridge lead.

Naim newby question....

Thanks

My dealer sells Neats too. So no worries there. It's getting them wall mounted that's probably going to be the most fiddly part.

Hi can anyone advise about the grounding when using the phono stage?

Really loving the 'Qute. Getting better every day.

I use Harbeth P3ESR speakers with my Qute:

I use 76 strand speaker cable which is as large as can be fitted to the plugs on the back of the Qute.

The Qute has an earth (ground) switch which you can set to give the least hum.

Steve - Are you using the Dali will bracket with the Menuet speakers?  If yes, how much distance is there between the wall and speaker, and is the bass response well balanced or boomy?

At the moment I have a demo pair of these speakers at home to try out for a friend who is building a system and has no other gear.  The Mentors sound great except for an overly ripe bass but that may be due to a less than idea location in a bookcase, away from objects but it could be an echo chamber.  If purchased, the speakers would be located on a 9" deep shelf or on the wall using the Dali wall brackets.  Any extra clearance with the bracelets might be a good thing.
