N Stream not finding uniti 2
Posted by: surfer on 24 December 2013
Hi folks, just bought into my first Naim experience with the Uniti 2, which so far is so good!
However I am unable to play my Ipad music via wireless via the N stream app.
N-Stream keeps saying no servers found!
Other apps like Bubble & Mconnect both show the Uniti to stream to, but the Naim app doesn't!
Can anyone help?
Hi surfer
Go into Factory Setting on the Uniti and make a note of the IP address (168.xxxxxxx) then exit settings. Go to setting on iPad. Turn Auto Connect off and enter the IP address. Also turn off Stay Connected. Should then work.

Hi Neil, no still wont find it, nothing under UPnP
to be clear the app finds the uniti 2 ok, so I can operate radio etc from the app, I just cant see anyway of getting my stored tunes on my ipad to be found and played
Sorry, re-read post. you cannot play the music on your iPad over naim equipment using n-stream.
So how come I can do it no problem using a 3rd party app IE MConnect ?
MConnect has a "play to" option and the uniti 2 is listed right there, and it works perfectly
I cant believe this Naim app is unable to do the same thing
Not familiar with MConnect. The idea of n-stream is to play music from your NAS or PC/ Mac to the uniti. There was talk of AirPlay....
Even Bubble UPnP on my Android phone works with it seamlessly
If you have it working fine, what is the issue? N-stream has a particular function as most users have local networked music (red book or higher res) that they use it to access those music files. It does its job reasonably well.

Your iPad is not a "server." nStream is an app that connects a UPnP server to a Naim player. While your Uniti2 is a Naim player, it appears that you have no UPnP server in your system. Thus, nStream cannot find what is not there.
There ARE other ways to play music stored on an iPad to a Naim player (a fair bit has been written about this; some like bluetooth solutions and some AirPlay to an Airport Express), but such is not the purpose or use of nStream.
Thank Bart - too much red.

I suspect that's exactly the case - Nstream is a pure control point, MConnect (IIRC) is both control point and UPnP server (and possibly as a client as well). [PlugPlayer is another app that does the same sort of thing in publishing and receiving via UPnP, and controlling multiple sources and streamers.
