ND5 XS...What a lovely Christmas present!

Posted by: The Meerkat on 25 December 2013

What a lovely box of tricks the ND5 XS is. I've hooked it up to my Supernait with the supplied din cable, streaming from my NAS, and it sounds great! The improved sound quality was immediate, due to the ND5's DAC being better than the one in the Supernait. Nice!

The billion $ question is, will Santa bring me the PS next Christmas?

I lovely present indeed. Congratulations and best wishes with it. Sure beats a pair of socks.

Hey MeerKat,

Congratulations and happy for you you appreciate the ND5XS so much. It is a fine piece of kit. The accompanying PSU is very helpfull bringing additionam authority and detail while keeping the amazing musicality of the ND5XS.

Cheers

Iver

What? Christmas not even over yet and you're already thinking about next year? Must be one of those audiophiles .

Nice gift, congrats!

Hi Scott,

Can you give a little hint as to the benefits of running your ND5 into a NDac, as I am a 'Curious Orange'.

Enjoy, David!  I look forward to hearing that you've solved all the technology and can just push buttons and listen to music.  You'll get there, before New Years Eve I bet!

Ha ha! Bart, I'm too embarrassed to admit how long I've spent trying to sort out 'Wonky Twonky' over the past two weeks. However, the main thing is, it does play the music! Not in any particular order mind you!!

Perhaps in the new year, I'll get a different NAS which has a different server, and re rip my CDs with dbpoweramp, when it's released for Mac OSX in a few months.

Happy holidays Bart!

Hey Meerkat, are you sure that you aren't me?!  I also received an ND5XS, which I also feed into a Supernait streaming from my NAS!

It's a very nice piece of kit, although I had a few problems getting everything to work smoothly.(Twonkymedia saved my day in the end)

Not unless we share the same girlfriend!!

Twonky, now that's another story! If you look at mine, and other members previous threads on 'Wonky Twonky', you'll see we have all experienced problems. Like, missing metadata, album tracks listed alphabetically, instead of how they were originally listed. If you're Twonky is presenting everything correctly, I'd love to know how you're doing it. I Use a Qnap 112 with Twonky pre installed.

Or should that be 'Kurious Oranj'?

Er yes!

I thought it would be too cryptic, but in hindsight I probably made it incomprehensible.

The subset of mankind comprising nd5xs owners and Mark E. Smith devotees may be small, but it is permanently vigilant...

Hi Meerkat, unless my wife is also your girlfriend....

I didn't do anything clever on the Twonky side of things - I just installed it from the "Apps" section after connecting to my TS219P using the Qnaps finder software. That probably means that I have the very latest version of Twonky, though. Most of my music files were burned using iTunes, with a few FLAC downloads mixed in.

I did exactly the same as you. I have the Qnap TS-112. I installed Twonky from the App section, and checked the software version, which is the latest, 7.2.51.0.

Depending what view I'm in (Folder, Album, Artist/Album) determines how the metadata is displayed. I can't remember was particular view I was in, but I had the artwork from Coldplay's 'Viva La Vida', showing as the artwork for The Beatles 'Abbey Road'...A right old mess!

Would you be so kind, and tell me your settings that you applied to Twonky. To be fair, there isn't too much to it, only about 6 boxes to tick. Also, what files are you using? I am using a mixture of WAV and FLAC.

Thanks
