Streaming from a Hi Quality Dac device

Posted by: surfer on 26 December 2013

Hi, folks I'm currently streaming flac music to my uniti 2, this is from a unit that has a Sabre -  ES9018 32Bit DAC Chip.

My question is, is this overkill, would my sound, sound as good coming from a cheap unit as my expensive one?

thanks for any help!

I'm no expert, but I don't follow why you'd stream from something with a DAC. All you need is a decent NAS, so long as you have a way of ripping the music and getting it onto the NAS in the first place. My Synology, which I use for backup, but can stream the music if you want it to, cost £350 including two 3TB WD Red drives.

You aren't using that dac if it's sending out a digital signal, which it must be if it is truly "streaming flac music."  Music servers send out digital streams, whereas dac's convert digital to analogue.

How is your "unit" connected to your Uniti2?

Hi Bart, it's wireless via bubble upnp app on my device.

but your right, thinking about it...even the cheapest music player streaming my music is really only streaming 1's and 0's so yeah my question is basically answered!

thank you
