Hi my best DVD not a film made by hbo for tv they made seasons 1 and 2' Should made a follow up but did not if you have not seen them do superb acting and colour history regards ,

yeah great series, before 3 was filmed the massive sets burned down and it was too expensive to build them again.  A shame it really brought old Rome to life.

Actually it was only the Subura set that burnt down. The Forum set (and House of Attia) is still in place and quite regularly used for advertisements or other series/films set in Rome. Dr Who visiting Pompeii was actually filmed on the Rome set. Also the Japanese comedy Thermae Romae, about a Roman architect who gets sucked down the plughole in the baths into a modern Japanese bathhouse, uses it for its Rome scenes.

 

The real reason for winding up the series seems to have been the cost of the whole production. A pity, since it is clear that Season Two winds everything up in a hurry.

 

If in Rome, take a trip to Cinecittà (at the end of Metro A). It's open most of the time and you can take a tour around the Rome set as well as the Gangs of New York street facade.

Been meaning to visit Rome again for sometime. Thanks for the tip.
