Best UPnP server for Naim discovered

Go to the Linn website and download Linn Songbox and Linn Konfig. Install both on your PC/Mac and viola! You have a free, fast and stable uPnP server for your Naim streamer that (to me) beats all of the commercial solutions out there. The interface looks good and I've experienced no drawbacks. And did I mention it's free? Cheers!
I installed it on my Macbook Pro just to check it out. I added a very small library of three HDTracks albums, each 24-192. It took a few tries for my Qute to be able to play each track of Art Blakey's Night in Tunesia. At first, trying to advance to the next track resulted in either the track not being found, or being skipped. But the track names and artwork appeared immediately, and after a few tries it was working just fine. And it appeared instantly in nServe on my iPhone. If I really wanted/needed an OS X based UPnP server, I'd give this a shot that's for sure.
Tales from Topographic Oceans won't play at all
As I posted in another thread, if this were my only option for a server I'd be hitting the whisky. In fact, I think I'll go pour me some.
Guys
Just tried it. It can see all the downloaded Hi Res tracks perfectly, which are in a folder on my iMac, and all my stuff in iTunes, But none of the albums that were ripped by the UnitiServe, which are in a folder stored on my iMac.
WAV rips rears its ugly head again lol.

Yes it does raise it's ugly head again Gary, those UnitiServe rips are all done in WAV. However, that situation will not last for ever. I'll either transcode to FLAC, or re rip my 300 CDs when dbpoweramp comes out for IOS in a few months time.
Speaking of ugly heads . Even my 'Wonky Twonky' can read FLAC files perfectly. N-stream shows full metadata.
I thought this was supposed to be best UPnP server ever for Naim??... it sounds like a car crash. I am afraid such headlines need to be used cutiously if derision is not to follow....
Using a commercial quality app where the author has had half an eye to inter working with Naim I have had no issue with my UPnP server working with NDX and NDS (and non Naim) over the last 3 years - and that is with 13k tracks and a variety of file types. I can also run it on a matchbox sized USB powered server that costs about £30 so costs me almost nought to run, and minimal to set up. But I would not claim its the best UPnP server for Naim discovered - although I have yet to have an issue with it...

I added my local (on my Mac hdd) iTunes library, and it seems to see all the albums. But some tracks won't play ("skipped track" message) and only about 10% of the album art shows up. For me, this is a dud at this point. Now I remember why I bought a uServe!
EDIT: This stuff can be addictive. I installed Minimserver for OS X and at least initially it did a lot better -- flawless on my little library of hi res files sitting on my Macbook Pro.

I have deleted all traces of the Linn Sonbox server off my Mac, into the bin. However, when I try to delete the contents of the bin, it say's Sonbox still in use! Even worse, I can't remove it in the servers list on N-Stream. Any ideas mate?
Thanks Zeny...It says in the Linn instructions, that dragging the app to the bin, deletes it, but every time I tried to empty the bin contents, it stated that the app was still in use! The annoying thing was, it was still shown as a server on N-Stream, and still able to play music!! Even after deleting the UPnP cache.
However, panic over! I deleted N-stream from my iPad, then downloaded it again. Songbox server now gone!
David I was having that issue, but found that the Konfig program was still running. Be sure to stop Konfig, and delete it, too. That worked for me. I've been able to completely delete both Konfig and Songbox now.
But it still showed up in nStream. So then I 'killed' nStream (double click the Home button on the iPhone and kill the app (if you use iOS 7 you flick it upwards; if you use iOS 6 you find it in the string of icons at the bottom of the display and x it out)). It did not re appear yay

Come on, Simon, let me in on the secret. Which little matchbox sized USB server are you running Asset on?

I believe it is one of these
Is that a raspberry pi ?
Is that a raspberry pi ?
Yep.
And mr Spoon from Asset UPnP Server has made a Raspberry version of Asset.

No flies on you lot

My vote is going with Minimserver at the min. Trying to get Raspberry pi with asset to work the way i want, but Minimserver is so flexible with its config settings its hard to fault. If you've not tried it give it a wirl
Foxman - out of interest what were you truing to do with Asset that you couldn't do on the Pi?.
I am aware that there are some limitations compared to the full blown Asset version - but I can live without them for the time being (network player dependent settings and customisable UPnP menus)
Simon
Hi Simon, it not a limitation of Asset. Im trying to get the pi to go into sleep mode when not in use so that it doesn't keep my NAS drives active 24/7.
I may not get a chance to listen all week, and while i dont mind the pi running, no power no moving parts, i want the NAS to go into its normal sleep mode.
Then get it all to Wake On Lan.
