nds and AirPort Time Capsule

Posted by: sf on 28 December 2013

Does anyone know how to make nds see the musik files on a Apple AirPort Time Capsule. The AirPort time Capsule is not listed in the UPnP directory, but works as the the router as well!
Thanks and happy New Year

Apple doesn't use UPnP but NAT which is a different protocol, but it might work. (UPnP is far from universal, nor plug and play anyway, of course.)

I think you need to do some port mapping...

Open Airport Utility

Double Click on the Timecapsule

Click "Edit"

Select the Network Tab

Ensure that your "Router Mode" is DHCP and NAT

Add a port setting (somehow - I have no clue what you would enter) to connect the Timecapsule to your NDS (I think)?

Google around for more info.

Airport is not going to deliver music to your NDS as it does not support UPNP or DNLA, apples airport does not support a lot and hence cannot be recommended in this setting. For the money you can do a whole lot more.

As someone with 10 plus apple devices in the house, the irony is not lost on me. Suffice to say I have just had a refund on a 2013 time capsule as it was, to be frank pants.

Apple Airport Time Capusle is a basic disk attached to a LAN interface / wifi interface. (NAS).  It has no intelligence to run applications like an DLNA UPnP server or iTunes. It is really designed primarily in its latest incarnation for Time Capsule backup and as an 802.11ac capable wifi access point (as well as a basic IPv6/IPv4  router function/DHCP option if required).

You can set it up to store file shares on your network - but you will have to manually archive it to back it up if you do so.
