Another Wonky Twonky query

Posted by: The Meerkat on 29 December 2013

After weeks and many late nights, of trying to sort out Twonky on my Qnap, re tagging, and transcoding albums on XLD, I thought I'd got it sussed! However, I have now discovered that Wonky Twonky displays the metadata on my iPad Air, differently to what it does on my iPhone, using N-Stream.

The albums that were converted from WAV to FLAC on XLD, displayed reasonably well on the iPad, depending what view you choose (Folder, Album, Album/Artist). When I use the iPhone to view the exact same files, the metadata is all over the place. Coldplay artwork is showing up on Beatles albums, a complete mess!

Both iPad Air, and iPhone are loaded with the latest iOS 7.0.4 software.

Anyone found similar problems?

I'd try clearing the cache in Nstream on the iPhone and reloading.  if its right on one device its likely the other one is just confused/inconsistent

Hi Slioch... I've done that. I even deleted N-Stream on the iPhone, then re installed it. No joy.

You said that you have cleared the n-stream cache but have you cleared them both (UPnP and Image). This is just in case… (I have sometimes forgot to clear the image cache and wondered why the problems with artwork still exists. I use ReadyDLNA instead of Twonky though)

Perhaps on ipad you have compatibility mode on, but not on the phone?

Done both, just the same. Unfortunately I can't remove Twonky from my Qnap. I'll wait until my bank balance is a bit better, then get a different NAS that doesn't have Twonky.

What is strange though, some people, and that includes Steve Hopkins from Naim, use a Qnap with Twonky, and have no problems.

Gary...They are off on both devices. Are they meant to be on?

Hi,
Hopefully you will get sorted and eventually be running smoothly.
I run twonky and it has been 100% reliable.i personally think it's all down to the user one way or another.you should get out what you put in.

Good luck with resolving the issues you have.

Hi,
I should of added that my qnap was initially running squeezebox server.all CDs ripped to flac and all tagged exactly the same way.
I was very concerned when I initially disabled squeezebox server and enabled twonky.when I did luckily for me it all works and displays the metadata the same.

Hi Scott...I think half of it is to do with how the CDs were originally ripped. I have UnitiServe rips, (Now not part of my system) and downloaded Hi Res FLAC Files.

I forgot mention, I am running the latest Twonky 7.2.5 software On the Qnap. I mean, there isn't really a lot to the Twonky setup, so no idea why it's not doing it properly. Depending what view I am in (Folder, Album, Artist) the metadata differs. I'd be interested to know how you have set yours up. What did you rip your CDs on?

Hi David,
I ripped all CDs using exact audio copy to flac format and use db poweramp to edit the tags.
One thing I did from day 1 was to keep the tags very simple.I do not use album art and tag as below.

Artist
Album
Title
Track number
Year

In the title tag mine have all been altered to include the track number by me to look like the example below-

01.Hotel California

I also have 7 hi res downloaded albums that work in the same way.
On the twonky navigation tree option I have It set to folder.so on n-stream I search music by folder.
This always shows up-artist,album,song.

Thank you Scott for your detailed reply.

when I used XLD to rip and tag Viva La Vida (Coldplay), I put 01, 02,  next to the track names, and so on, then saved it. However, when I displayed the album on my iPad, the 01, 02, etc, next to the track names had vanished!

Hi David,
Sorry I can't help further as I have only ever used eac and db poweramp from day one.
The problem you have though in my opinion is on the tagging side of things.
When I open a album up in n-stream I see-

1-01.hotel California
2-02.easy loving feeling

And so on.
I really do hope you get this sorted ASAP.

Try a rescan:

settings > advanced > server maintenance > rescan content folders

Remember to click "save changes" or else nothing will happen.

%n: Track number

%D: Disc number
%t: Title
%a: Artist

%A: Album artist
%c: Composer
%y: Year
%g: Genre
%f: Format
%i: ISRC
%m: MCN
%I: DiscID

You need to use the % with appropriate character to create the format you want. I think the string in the example should achieve what you want. Album Artist as the top folder, then album title as the next folder down and then each of tracks prefixed by the track number.

HTH, Wat

Thanks Wat...

Like this   %A %T %n (Album Artist, Album title, Track number)

Do you put the 01. next to the actual track name? (01.Viva La Vida)

Thanks

Update:

In 'folder view', Muse's album 'The 2nd Law' (In FLAC) showed the tracks alphabetically! But putting 01. 02. etc, next to the track name, has cracked it! Track listings now in their original form! Dare I ask, why the hell we actually have to do this?

I now have to do the same thing to 300 other albums!

Thank you Wat, Scott and all that helped.
