What was the first piece of music you listened to this year?

There I was this morning, 'doodling' on one of my guitars, messing about with "All Or Nothing" by the Small Faces, and I suddenly noticed that I had segued into the main them from the last movement of Brahms Symphony No 1 (it was the opening riff in the song which took me in that direction, in case you wonder why). I just had to go and listen to it on the NDS etc. Absolutely sublime piece of music IMO.
So, what was the first piece of music you listened to this (New) year, and why?
John.

A bawdy piece of Elizabethan folk music. Honest!

A Bach Piano Transcriptions by Walter Rummel played by Jonathan Plowright - Die Seele ruht in Jesu Händen from the Cantata BWV 127. Didn't plan it but with little sleep and in the early hours still this somehow happened. Listening to the whole album over breakfast.

"My Father" by Judy Collins. It brought tears to my eyes - in a pleasant way.
Why ? - Currently digitising my vinyl and editing out the pops & clicks. I'm getting to play some of the stuff I haven't heard in years.

Not exactly music, but I was practising modes of the jazz minor scale as the clock ticked into 2014. But if that doesn't count, the first album I played this morning was Wagner's Siegfried Idyll by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under Raphael Kubelik on vinyl. Then I moved on to Das Rheingold (Boehm) followed by some Steve Hillage. I don't see much connection there, but that's 2014 for you!

I have not planned an intentional listening session, but this is what I have heard first...

Seaons by Magna Carta on the vertigo swirl label. I had a New Years Eve record buying binge and this was the first album out of the bag. Managed to play 6 lps non-stop without any interruption. If only the other 364 days could be as good......
